It has Yao at #15 now. It had him at #37 last year after the season was over. The guy is improving. Look at the guys that are ahead of him. All are legit bigtime players. Also, Yao is the only player with 1-2 years of experience in the top 20. Yao needs to just make sure gets rested during the season during those multi-day breaks. I don't think he's filming all those commercials anymore, so that might help. http://www.nba.com/statistics/default_regular_season_leaders/LeagueLeadersEFFQuery.html
Wow, Yao is higher than Dirk. I dunno though, I've always thought that EFF is like OPS in baseball, not truly the best measure of how good someone is. They need to come up with something like win shares for b-ball. I wonder how Yao would do there.
i remember that there are coaches who weigh considerably their decisions on eff. rating...i forgot who though, can anyone remember or confirm this?
http://www.nba.com/statistics/2002/default_regular_season_leaders/LeagueLeadersEFFQuery.html Steve was #17. Look at how much Brad Miller and Peja shot up the ratings chart this year compared to last. Brad Miller is perfect for the Kings. I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings traded Webber to an Eastern Conference team. Peja is now the best scorer in the NBA. He looks like Larry Bird. Kevin Garnett is #1 again this year. That's no surprise.
whoa there... add 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and then maybe he's like larry bird. no one is like larry bird.
The efficiency rating doesn't necessarily mean the player is better than someone lower in rating, but it does show how valuable he is to the team he is playing on. When Yao improves on his field goal percentage, it will increase his effectiveness on the court. The same thing applies when he improves other categories like blocks and rebounds.
Yes, noone now is good as Larry Bird, but I haven't seen anyone shoot like Peja in a long time especially in a league where scoring in the 100s is a rarity. I believe this is the type of player the NBA is encouraging in the NBA which is why the zone defense rules were implemented. Those European guys who can shoot lights out can play on the same court as more athletic American players.
Good to see Charvo posting here! This is the place for some good-natured basketball discussion, not like the other boards (you know what I mean).
