Duos that have succeeded in the past:

    Kobe Bryant + Pau Gasol
    Kobe Bryant + Shaq
Tony Parker + Tim Duncan (in a way)
    Clyde + Hakeem
    KG + Pierce
    etc.

Some duos who were/are pretty good but didn't/haven't win anything:

    Karl Malone + Stockton
    Nash + Stoudamire
    Paul + West
    Billups + Anthony
    etc.

So now who's your pick for the next decade to be the next duo to win a championship? (obviously some duos haven't been formed yet, but pick anyway)

    Russell Westbrook + Kevin Durant
    Dirk Nowitzki + Caron Butler
Kevin Martin + Yao Ming (I just had to put it...)
    Carl Landry + Tyreke Evans
    Vince Carter + Dwight Howard
    Other

Sorry if I had forgotten any significant ones...

Vince + Dwight would be most likely in the next 2-4 years. But I also can't count out the Kevin + Yao combo!

I have to go with Durant and Westbrook because you asked about Potential.

They are soo young and so talented. Will they be able to keep them together though?

    Vince is declining drastically.

I would have to choose Westbrook/Durant.

Both are going to be stars for a long time.

That one person who voted for Dirk + Caron needs to explain himself.

VC and Howard have a decent shot this season. I don't think any of the others have a good chance in the near term. Long-term, KD and Westbrook will be very scary for a long time.

Kevin Durant & Russel Westbrook their both just 21, not to mention Green & Harden(their third overall pick in the draft)......SMH

but the question is, can they keep this young core together?!....

If you add Carter + Howard, then why not add Kobe + Pau? Their potential is just as great as Carter + Howard and both have the same window of opportunity, although considering Kobe's unearthly desire and heart, it is very difficult to determine exactly how long he can play at a high level.

Dirk + Butler are in their prime so we can't really talk about their potential anymore because we already know what they bring to the table in terms of their game. I would say the same for Yao + Martin, but they have more opportunity for growth than Dirk + Butler because they are an inside-outside duo, which has proven to have the most success in the past.

That leaves Evans + Landry and Durant + Westbrook. If we are to decide based on potential, then the talent level of Durant and Westbrook win out.

Oh I didn't add Kobe + and Pau to the potential list cause they already reached their potential by winning a championship. I guess you're right with the other stuff... it's just there's too few duos currently out there right now who are young.

I actually chose dirk and caron.

First of all, I don't think they are the most talented or the best players.

I chose them cause the op said be the next best thing and WIN a championship. There are some great players like durant and westbrook who are gonna be stars in this league for a long time. But i feel that their team are no where good enough to win it all in the next 2-3 years. I feel that the mavs have the highest chance out of them all to win a championship. yes we all dislike/hate the mavs, but they got a damn good team right now. can't deny that. If I was to put money on any of them to win it this year, it would be the mavs.

ps. my above statment does not make me any less of a rox fan of dislike the mavs any less...
