At the rate we are going we might as well start this now. We have a shot at basically anyone in this upcoming draft. 1 Harrison Barnes Fr. 2 Perry Jones Fr. 3 Enes Kanter Fr. 4 Kyrie Irving Fr. 5 Donatas Motiejunas Intl. http://www.nbadraft.net/ Barnes or Jones seem interesting.
with our luck, the knicks and the rockets have the 2 worse records in the league and they both get pushed out of the top 3 with the lottery system.
If they haven't played 2 years of college at a minimum, you can forget about it. The $Balls are slanted to Jr's and Sr's.
I have a lot of faith in Morey still. I think he did all he could to try and get a star player and the balls just didn't roll his way. Also I think Morey was interested in moving up in the draft...I don't think Morey undervalues star power like people think he does. I think he just hasn't had the chance yet to acquire one. Our assets are good, but not good enough to steal a star player and also...no star player wants to come here to play with the oft-injured Yao. If we draft one or two I think Morey will draft Jones or Barnes (figuring they've had a great college season) and hold on to them. Wouldn't it be funny if we drafted Barnes and then traded him for some vet roleplayer type of guy???
i say go for it. whats the point of another first round exit or late lotto pick when only role players are left to draft. we aren't trading for, or signing a superstar anytime soon either. chances of that are miniscule at best. best way to get a real superstar is through the draft. time to move on to the next era of rockets basketball. this one is coming to an end whether we like it or not.
The organization has stated many times that they draft players with a 4-year window in mind. They evaluate them based both on their potential and the probability they will fulfill that potential. The organization has also tried several times to move up and grab a young stud, but the deals were unsuccessful. Obviously, our front office loves stars as much as anyone, we just haven't been in a position to pick one up for a while. For what it's worth, I think this team's not as bad as our record suggests, and I doubt we'll have a shot at any of these guys by the end of the season.
Trade for Rubio Trade up in the draft, if we aren't top 3 already Sign Jeff Green as a FAgent or trade for him Rubio, Green and a top 3 pick will begin the new era of Rox ball. IF Yao is borderline healthy, resign him at a VERY reduced rate to anchor the middle.
Perry is tall and can play SF I think.......but I like Barnes a bit more personally. When it is mentioned that his work ethic and IQ are strentghs, those are things that make all-NBA 1st teamers...not just all-stars but elite players have great work ethic and a will to get better and better. Read about Barnes...thats the kinda guy I'm drafting in the top 3. Also we have height on this team Rick just refuses to play it. We do not have a decent SF though so either would do, I just like Barnes game more, seems he's super athletic with all the skills you'd want from a wingman. Any ways feels odd talking about this so early in the season, Rockets are still in it no matter how bad they have looked.
You guys do realize that half the teams in the NBA put out press to the media that "they'd like to move up"? This is crap for the fans to slurp on.
Really doesn't matter. People expect Morey to do the impossible. Teams are just not going to give you their potential superstar players. Teams were begging to move up in the draft, the Kings confirmed that. They have no reason though to trade down and not take a chance on a guy like Cousins Teams are not also just going to give you Iggy, Granger, and definitely not Melo. If there was a obvious move to be made for a superstar someone needs to point it out. I've not seen it yet.
In Kahn's 2 years he's drafted 2 PGs and signed 3. Currently two PGs on his roster are injured so they're looking to add another one.
