Andrew Wiggins and Jar Jar Parker looks like to be 1:2 for the 2014 draft and it looks like the Celtics and Lakers are preparing for their worst season in some time.. Coincidence? I think not.

Both teams have their stars expected to be back realistically around Christmas and by that time why would both franchises risk playing them? Kobe won't return to play for a team without Dwight and out of the playoff picture and the same could be said for Boston with Rondo. Both franchises and the NBA will do whatever it takes to set both markets in the right direction for the future.

I just don't think the marquee franchises in Boston and the Lakers are going to be BAD for 2+ years. If Wiggins/Jabari end up in LA/Boston, that would be the new generation's rivalry to look forward to and I think it would be a tremendous gift for Stern to leave the NBA off with.

That is true but I doubt that the Lakers will be that bad unless Kobe sits out for the entire year and they really get rid of everyone.

By the time Kobe comes back the Lakers will be pretty bad.

The problem is Rondo and Kobe are pretty good and they'd keep a team average....Rondo would come back sooner and him and Wallace could ruin all that top 5 hope.

Lakers will suck though, Kobe will get healthy and by the time he does it will be pointless. It will be interested if he will want to play because he just loves playing and if the Lakers will have to tie him down to prevent him from playing

I do think both teams are waving the white flag for next year...well if the Lakers do lose Dwight.

if the fakers end up with a top 3 pick in next year's draft, even the most sheepish of nba fans will jump the fence and call shenanigans

The Lakers will have a boatload of cap-space after next year. So combined with a lottery pick and some good free agent signings, they could be done rebuilding in pretty much one year of tanking.

And don't forget Sampson, who is another example of the possible "virtues" of tanking. Of course, both Sampson and Olajuwon were pre-lottery, and actually caused the lottery to be put in play by the league. It was a direct impact of those draft outcomes. The lottery, assuming it is legit, and not fixed (and I'm not saying it is, either), makes it far, far harder to tank and target a particular player.

They are gonna sell Rondo for dirt cheap this season to someone, Perhaps a team like Dallas that has cap space, and still has a player like Dirk...

If you dont know how things like this works, Its gonna be the Lakers and Celtics with the #1 and #2 picks respectively. Its not unfathomable. Its inevitable.

I think Ainge is gonna go after New Orleans tonight with Rondo. Something like Rondo for #6, next year's pick, and perhaps...Rivers or Vasquez?

Every team has had bad seasons. Thank you for stating the obvious. News flash there's only one winner after every one season.

Sorry, but this is a dumb thread. What do you mean 2 marquee franchises in the Lakers / Celtics won't be bad for 2+ years. Have you forgotten the many Celtics' horrendous seasons, y'know, before they got Allen/Garnett ? They were terrible for 5+ years.

And the Lakers were also terrible for 3-4+ years before they got Pau Gasol.

There is no conspiracy here, and the Lakers aren't even trying to tank. If they did, they wouldn't want Howard to resign.

The Celtics, however, are trying to tank.

Yeah, I think it's humorous that clutchfans will crucify the Lakers/Celtics for doing anything like this yet forget their very own team is the reason for the draft lottery to begin with.
