1 San Antonio (1) 37-10 Went 3-0, winning each by 13.0 ppg. Trounced Seattle on Jan. 31 by 19 on the first game of a seven-game trip (thanks to the annual rodeo held at the SBC Center). Yee-haw! 2 Phoenix (2) 37-11 Sure, they lost to a vastly improved Grizzlies team on Feb. 1, but the look on Kevin McHale's face after the Suns scorched the Wolves by 29 on Feb. 2 said it all: These guys are good. 3 Miami (5) 33-14 What's this? A Van Gundy-coached team (in this case, Stan) averaging more than 100 points (101.8 to be exact) per game and going 25-4 when scoring more than 100? We'll take it. 4 Seattle (3) 31-13 Without coach Nate McMillan (our sympathies, coach) and Ray Allen (viral infection), Seattle shook off a 19-point loss to the Spurs and scored a clutch win over Sacto. That's resilient. 5 Sacramento (4) 31-14 "Bow, peon, for I am Brad Miller, the most royal of all Kings in the last five games." Why? "Dare you question such regal digits: 21.4 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 4.0 apg? Off to the Mavs entry with you!" 6 Dallas (6) 30-14 Stumbled against the Sixers, but took care of bidness against the Hornets on the road. Hope the Mavs dig being away from Dallas; seven of next eight are away from the Metroplex. 7 Detroit (9) 28-18 Haven't given up more than 95 points during their five-game winning streak. That and Larry Brown says he's staying. Now, maybe they can concentrate on basketball. 8 Memphis (12) 27-20 It's time to move the Grizzlies into the top 10, especially after rolling the Suns by 11 on Feb. 1. They're 20-9 since Fratello took over on Dec. 3. 9 Houston (10) 26-21 T-Mac and the Rockets have benefitted by Jon Barry and David Wesley's arrival. Not only has T-Mac averaged 28.2 ppg in his last five, he's also dished 6.8 apg over the same stretch. 10 Cleveland (8) 26-18 Got a look at life without LeBron when they lost on Jan. 28 to the Knicks. The Cavs are only 5-5 in their last 10 and they have a gritty week ahead with the Heat and Magic on the docket. 9 Houston (10)
ummm.....hard to read that. Did they not say anything about us? Just the number? .........kind of pointless.
That's pretty incredible that only 2 eastern teams are above us. We're 9th in the league, yet 7th in our conference. Kind of depressing.
