http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/fran_blinebury/11/06/artest/index.html His home court has changed, but enigmatic Artest has not Posted Nov 6 2009 1:01PM HOUSTON -- So here's Ron Artest, sitting at his locker stall, smiling up into the TV cameras and microphones, insisting that his first game back in Houston had no added significance.........
"I regret spending my last year in houston." That was enough to piss me off. I was of the few that wanted him to stay..but i don't know what to say. I guess the bird rights thing makes sense, but damn, we were good to this guy during his tenure.
It's just due to the financial implications. He also say that Houston was his first option. "But once my agent told me they didn't want me, I said let's go to L.A., Hollywood."
I understand the financial implications, but he could have been a little more sensitive on the subject. I guess I never realized how much him leaving actually bothered me . Still, I'm fine with trevor.
People, don't let anything Ron the Nutcase says bother you. Don't let your emotions be affected by a fruitcake that might end up being committed to an institution before it's all said and done. After his basketball career is over (or even before), there is no telling how the Ron Artest story will end. My bet is it won't be positive.
I'm Sig material??? I am with you on this. Ron as a person is amusing in small doses, but honestly does he realize what his year here did for his reputation? We made him legitimate again. Our core group of guys... shane carl chuck luis... dealt with him and didn't share his exploits with everyone and their brother. UGH
Good piece by Fran, actually. It's just Ron being Ron... he just needs everyone to love him and gets really sensitive at anything that makes him feel unwanted-- Yao's joke in 2008, Barkley's relatively harmless comments recently and, of course, not being offered a long-term deal from the Rockets. Jonathan Feigan mentioned that Rockets offered to do a double s&t for Ron and Ariza so both teams can save their MLE for other FAs but Lakers were not interested. But I guess if the "Rockets did me dirty" is what it takes to motivate Ron, so be it. Ariza and Artest are both in good places now for their career. It seems things worked out reasonably well.
I totally agree with your last point. And when someone in Ohio refers to a former Rocket's year here, that just shows the passion of the Rocket's fan base!
1st time to the second round in over 10 yrs Extended the eventual champions to 7 games He was on his P's and Q's and worked hard Sorry . . . I cannot hate the guy Rocket River I am appreciative
