    From Blineberry's article:

"Yes, he's 38 years old. No, he's no longer the dominating force who ruled the NBA for more than a decade. But if you're a team that needs someone to take up some space, chew up some minutes and get some rebounds, you could do a lot worse than the Diesel. And don't forget that he can still put some points on the board, though not consistently and not at his former pace. If you're sitting in Houston, Shaq might just be the answer as the backup to a mending Yao Ming and also a mentor who could impart a few tips about being mean. New York, New Jersey and Chicago are a few other spots where the original NBA Superman could be flexing his muscles next season."

Empty speculation does not equal genuine interest

    Agreed. I worded it poorly.

Still, its the first i've heard of this. Wonder what made him state this?

The Rockets can only offer the vet min, LLE, or part of/all of the MLE.

Difficult decision, 6-6 Chuck Hayes or Shaq?

The whole article is speculation about where it would make sense for free agents to go. I think he pretty much gave his reasoning.

I already see the motto: "Bring Ming a ring" or "Can he bring Ming a ring?" :p

Why not pull David Lee also? If you want to pull Fran's speculations on free agents. Speculation is crap.

    Missed the David Lee portion.

Speculation is 3/4 of this board......and what makes it fun/interesting IMHO.

Can't believe he put Matt Barnes on the list and left Lowry out.

From a commercial standpoint it would be genius on Shaq's part. He's already got lots of ads in China but this would put it over the top. And Shaq has always been a player cognizant of the business side of things. At the LLE by all means I'll take him over Brad Miller.

What we have to realize at this point is that we don't need just one big to fill in minutes next year, we need two, preferably a vet and a prospect, to eat up regular season minutes while Yao works his way back to form. And in Shaq, Yao, and one of the young centers in the draft, you would have a representative from each generation. And for a young kid learning beside Yao and Shaq, as long as you're not thick as a brick aka Kwame Brown you've GOT to have some of that successful mindset and work ethic rub off on you, a la Rondo with the Celtics in 2008. Or what Bill Simmons calls the "Tom Brady Peyton Manning backup QB effect".

If he could just lose some weight, I think he'd be pretty effective.

Shaq's ego wont allow him to backup Yao. Maybe Yao should be Shaq's Backup when the season starts as Yao still recover from major surgery!

I think Shaq would play the injury card in Houston.

Something I don't trust about him.

I would do it simply because he knows what it takes to be a champion, and he would have an awesome new nickname...
