The realm of basket has changed greatly since the inception of the game. Along with those changes, the modern NBA agent has changed too. There used to be 3 components in any trade; Player+Agent, TeamA and TeamB. The player and the Agent used to be 1 unit, player voices opinion to agent and agents get it done. however with the new types of agents coming out, a la Wes Welsey, they have now become less of repesentation of the player and more of the hidden masterminds, kind of like the Cancellor in Star Wars. These master minds are now manipulating players, GMs, teams, media to fullfill a vision that they have. The perfect example is the Melo drama, rumors has it that Melo is getting tired of his representation but his representation goes out to try to recruit Chicago. Granted none of this is wrong or anything but it does muck up soo many things. Does it even follow what the player wants? I recently read an article that basically stated that Melo isnt really incontrol of his density but rather a puppet. Which all makes sense considering all that has happened. These agents are now analyzing the teams and trying to combine players, the choice is no longer the players but based off of marketing, market area, ability to win championship. Granted all of these things were factors before. However, now it seems that the final words wont be from the player but the agents. We dont know what the vision is from the masterminds of Wes Wesley and company, in one way it could make the competition in the NBA better but only for a few teams and other ways it could harm the NBA but stacking the competition, therefore harming the fan base for the other team. But whatever the outcome is, the balance of powers will shift again.
