Well since it seems like every thread here is always about trading or defending our players, I thought I would bring it "Old School" style and NOT start a thread like that. Anyways, NBA 2Night is pissing me off!!! Everytime the Rockets win, they only show like 5 seconds of highlights or they pull one of those "show the highlights of one game, then show the box score of that game on a split screen with another game(usually the rockets) without showing highlights from that game" thingys. I mean, the whole point of this show is to do what you can't on ESPN, discuss the nights games with more depth and analysis. It's like they take 15 minutes of commercials and then squeeze as much as they can of the Lakers before showing some highlights. And to top it off, they show weak highlights sometimes, but then say stuff like "MJ had a break away dunk in this game(havn't seen jordan dunk since the fake young guy in the commercials)," "Marcus Camby finished a game without an injury," "a clutch city bbs member tried to prove that his grandma could play better than Cat, but she broke her ankle on a crossover by Iverson," and " the Blazers started newly signed guard, Jesus Christ" without showing what happened.
the rockets have to win many games to get the respect from espn. unless yao has a huge games against big name players or get embarrassed by them, you won't see many rockets' highlights. espn shows mostly lakers' and wizards' games and highlights. i hate watching the wizards' games cuz they are terrible. they throw so many bricks that you can use them to build couple of houses. in addition, turnovers are so common. after watching a quarter of horrific basketball, you would rather watch the food network instead.
If Yao got dunked on by any player in a game, I can assure you it will be a highlight on NBA2Night. Last night they showed the facial by Ostertag. Those were like the only 2 points Big O scored in the whole game.
Until Rox become a contender, we are not going to see them in national TV a lot. And hopefully with MJ officially retired at the end of this season, ESPN will stop showing Wizards as well.
That's all fine and good guys, but I was trying to lighten things up. I mean, come on, how can you take stuff like this serious: Where are the LMAO and ROTFLMAO? Where are the props? Where are the "classic post" posts? Let's have some fun people. And by fun I mean please inflate my ego.
Just screw them, Dude. Its like having a bunch of Rudy haters and Steve haters and Cat haters all in a 30 minute show.
I didn't see tonight's show but I watched the show last night after we lost. They showed 3 plays. 1) The play where Ostertag dunked over Ming. They said he really gave him a facial. You could hear them almost chuckling as they were speaking. 2) The play where Harpring hit the game tying 3-pointer. I forget what they said after this one. 3) They play where AK47 got open for a layup and Ming was about 2-3 ft. away and didn't even try to block it(again with the almost chuckling voice). They criticise Ming for not even attempting the block. I have to say I agree with them on this one, because I remember screaming "Block the #@&$!%# shot" myself when the play happened, but I understand Ming is tired, and was in foul trouble last night. I also understand that they usually show only highlights of the winning team, unless it's Kobe, T-Mac, Shaq, or MJ, but I really think that some people there would really like to see Ming fail. Part of it comes from being the no.1 pick. Part of it comes from being 7'5(or 6)''. But I think a part of it comes from being a foreigner too. They show some of his good plays when we win, but you can really hear the delight/pleasure/laughter in their voices when they show his bad plays, like Marbury's cross earlier in the year. They like to show Stoudemire's dunks, and give him props, but when someone(like Brand last night) more than doubles him offensively(29-12), I don't hear them chuckling about his defense. But I agree with the poster that said as we win more, we will get more exposure(as a team). I really compare ESPN and Yao Ming to Steve Francis and some of the posters at this forum. They will begrudgingly give him props when he does well, but would much rather show/talk about his deficiencies/bad plays. Any of the members here have relatives that work for ESPN?
what really pissed me off was nba fast break. they were showing first and second quarter action of other games instead of the final minutes in houston. i was raging, they didn't show any of the final quarter or overtime. how can you just ignore 2 western conference playoff teams. it scares me how little of them i would see without ming
No kidding. I saw 3 Rox games on TV here in LA, all of them were against the Lakers. With Yao Ming, I saw some Rox games on national TV. That tells you how bad we were last year. I hope we can become a basketball powerhouse once again.
That was driving me crazy the other night. They were saying stuff like "Yao with an incredible block in crunch-time!!!"...and then they don't show us anything! WTF? They cut to a Clippers game, I think, or whoever it was the game they did show was crap.
Thank you.. ok..Im in such a good mood after yesterday...I'll play(read as, inflate your ego) LMAO! great post! How many points did Jesus score btw? did he get a half court dunk?? btw, on a serious note...NBA2Night does suck..they have for years..you are just now realizing this??
NBA2Night! What is that? These are some on the frustrations you avoid when you have LP and you see the whole game. I no longer yearn for highlights. Of course it is much better than it used to be. Back in 1984 highlights were unheard of. The ultimate, though, is staying in CT and have the rockets game come all the way in to my bedroom. For a rocket fan, it does not get better than that.
Dude, the Rockets won how many games last year? We've been on national TV at least 4 times, right. Twice vs. Dallas, once vs. Indiana, once vs. L.A., and Tuesday will be a fifth. That's pretty good for a team that didn't win 30 games last year.
bah....it's all entertainment. If you want to really analyze basketball, just get the NBA League Pass and do it yourself. ESPN, much like the majority of basketball today, is a joke.
You'll get no argument from me. Comparing to last year, I have seen a lot more Rox on TV this season. Yao is certainly having an impact on the schedule makers at national TV networks.
Those smartass commentators on ESPN are so smug it's annoying. Just show me the f-cking highlights and keep your JV standup routine to yourself! You just know that they were all probably waterboys or equipment managers that could never make the team and this is their way of getting back. What qualifies them for being experts at the game? They've also been Yao-haters from the beginning and have always delighted whenever something didn't go his way. Even after he broke out of his shell, you get the feeling they'd rather see Yao fail then succeed. If they really want to focus on some rookie busts, they should look at Jay Williams or Mike Dunleavy. They could fill a whole hour of Sportcenter with the number of bricks these guys have been throwing up. They obviously find something more inherently amusing about a 7'5" Chinese guy who plays basketball.
