This is my first post though I've been following this BBS for several years now. One of your silent fans I guess... With all the rumors about Dream walking and us pursuing Marc Jackson, what do you guys think about another soon-to-be free agent Nazr Mohammed? He's been tearing it up down in Atlanta during Ratliff's absence. He's got legit size, decent hops and post presence, and great consistent production (15/10), on par with if not surpassing Jackson. And presumably he's learned a thing or two about defense from Mutumbo. Just a overachieving C on a underachieving team? Or is he for real? Should we try to get him? What do you guys think? ------------------
Supposedly they like Mohammad in Atlanta and he's going to resign with them. I agree though, the guy's improved alot with rebounding and scoring. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Mohammed never played with Mutumbo. He was traded (with Kukoc and Ratliff) for Mutumbo. Atlanta has some decisions to make. Do they want to trade Ratliff? Ratliff spent time to become a center, and it'd be pointless to move him back to PF. Mohammed has played well enough to earn a starting slot. It'll come down to how much Atlanta wants to spend. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
..........but what does Atlanta want/need? Brevin and Jason are a dynamic, but smallish backcourt. Plenty of big bodies at the 4/5 and Kukoc at the 3 with DJ developing. Any speculation on what Atlanta could get in trade for the likes of Wright, Theo, Henderson or Nazr? Mango ------------------ Get it right or just don't do it! Resistance is futile....you will be assimilated.
Mango, The feeling here in Atlanta is to keep Nazr and get rid of Wright. They feel that Wright is not the answer and that Nazr is better. Word is Wright will be traded, Ratliff and Muhammed will be the main post presencs. Who knows about Henderson...they don't like him, though. ------------------ Whitey will pay.
rimbaud, The people in Atlanta are more intelligent that thought. Wright?...Uh....no. Mango ------------------ Get it right or just don't do it! Resistance is futile....you will be assimilated.
Mango, you want speculation? If the Rockets were to win the #1 (or even #2) pick, I sure would trade Cato, KT, and the #1 for Ratliff, Cal Bowdler, and their pick (~5-6) Cato is from Atlanta, isn't he? He would seem comfortable off the bench. Atlanta could then take Curry, and groom him slowly as a PF next to Mohammed. Up front, they'd have Cato, Nazr, Wright, Henderson, Curry, and KT. If you want to add Walt from us and Wright or Henderson from them, go ahead. The Rockets would be able to pick up an SF like Battier in that position, or possibly even Chandler, Eddie Griffin or Jason Richardson. The C and SF positions would be secure, leaving a perfect slot for Webber to play next to an all-star center, or a slot that MoTay or Antonio Davis could slide into. But first, we have to get the #1 pick. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure. NIKEstrad, Anything that lands Theo in conjunction with Cato leaving is great. Can you find a deal in which Houston doesn't have a top 3 pick to bargain with? Mango ------------------ Get it right or just don't do it! Resistance is futile....you will be assimilated.
I did not have time to run a check how it would work, but what about something in the neighborhood of a re-signed Shandon Anderson and an both owed late 1st round picks for Theo Ratliffe. Gives Atlanta potential back to back picks to play (trade or use) in a deep draft, gets rid of the center controversy, gives them a nice, defensively minded 2/3. Houston gets a rebounding/blocking machine, unloads the late picks and gets Shandon back home where he could probably be more in the spotlight . Just some untested thoughts to get the mind going... ------------------ "Their Tiger Kung Fu is strong, but our Dragon will defeat them!"
