I don't understand how suspending a license is beneficial. That too for 30 days.

I think it's pretty smart. It will make her ashamed of what she did... And in today's society most people will justify what they did wrong and won't be ashamed of it - and they will most likely repeat the offense later. As a society we have taken the shame out of punishment and punishments are no longer working because of that. If you do something wrong or commit a crime it's because somehow you are a "victim" of something. A broken home, a bad neighborhood, or because you were poor. Heck, many people brag about breaking laws or going to jail. I applaud these kinds of punishments.

How far would u take it though?? Is shame based punishment acceptable only for adults? What about children? Would u be ok with this kind of punishment for your child(ren)? Be honest.

You have to look at it incident by incident. This isn't someone changing lanes and speeding past a bus when its stopped. She drove on a sidewalk. Her two hours of wearing a sign isn't anything compared to how messed up a kid would be if they got hit by a car.

Its like Tenchi said...its really a case-by-case situation. As far as Children go, they are not adults and are still developing. You don't want them to feel so shameful that it inhibits their normal mental development. You can include shame in a punishment like time out. Its in how you talk (not yell) to them about what they did. We talk to our kids about what they did wrong when we let them out of time out. I get on my knees so I'm at their eye level and we have a serious talk. We've realized that if they truly feel bad about what they did, then they won't do it again.. and shame is a part of that feeling. For the record, yes we do & have spanked, but its very rare that it gets to that - as a matter of fact, I cannot remember the last time we had to spank one of our girls (7 and 5).

Adults are different - they know better and todays adults have no shame. In their minds they have a complete justification for doing something illegal - thats why they do it. If we reintroduce shame into the situation, they are less likely to repeat the action because they no longer have the justification.

Kids don't know what's up. ADULTS are supposed to. They SHOULD, at least.
