"There's no doubt that Texans offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will join his father Mike, probably in Washington when he returns to coaching next year. Kyle is a very bright coach who will be his father's offensive coordinator."

I think Gary Kubiak will be back next year. If he is, in all likely, Kyle Shanahan will join his father in Washington if he accepts that head coaching job which most people say he will. Who will be the next Texans offensive coordinator? This is going the 6th different offensive coordinator in 6 years for the Texans.

I don't see anybody on the current staff who should be promoted to the post. I expect Kubiak to make some changes on his staff if he does come back. I think the running backs coach Chick Harris and offensive line coach John Benton could be let go because the running game has been horrendous this year. Alex Gibbs could retire after the year too.

One name to remember for the offensive coordinator spot is former Boston College head coach Jeff Jagodzinski. Jagodzinski worked with Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman in Green Bay and with Alex Gibbs in Atlanta. Rhodes, Sherman, and Gibbs are 3 people who Kubiak is very close with. Another name is Rick Dennison who worked with Kubiak in Denver and was most recently the Broncos offensive coordinator.

If you look at Kubiak's past hires on his staff, he usually hires somebody he really knows from his Broncos days or somebody who worked with somebody he trust like Gibbs, Rhodes, or Sherman. I think Dennison or Jagodzinski will get the job in the end. Dennison could join Shanahan in Washington but I think he rather be a offensive coordinator for the Texans than a offensive line coach for the Skins. Obviously this all depends on Kubiak coming back which I think he will.

Kubiak will run the offense like how wade phillips runs the defense in dallas.

HoustonDiehards RT @mortreport: R. Gannon said to me on radio show Fri., in talking to good pal Bruce Allen, expects Kyle Shanahan to join Dad with Redskins

Kubiak should just run the "O", The offense was better last yr when he was basically calling all the plays.

Sounds like a preconceived notion to me. It's easy to assume that but we just don't know until we hear it from Kyle. He did leave his dad in Denver, after all.

A lot will depend on these last few games. If we manage to win out and the coaching staff gets a vote of confidence, Kyle would have a tough choice to make.

    Err.. No.

    Chris Palmer (2002–2005)
    Troy Calhoun (2006)
    Mike Sherman (2007)
    Kyle Shanahan (2008–present)

And if Kubiak isn't back next year, there's about a 98% chance Kyle is gone in that scenario, too.

Texans have to give permission for this, right? Since it would be a lateral move and not a promotion?

Yea they have to give permission but I doubt Kubiak would block him from leaving.

If he leaves before the season but from what I have heard, his contract with the team is over after this season anyway. I doubt that Kubiak would try to block Kyle from working with his dad. They are all one big family from what I have heard.

That would be a shame if he left.

Whoever replaces him would have to have the intelligence to call such clutch plays in the 4th quarter like the halfback option against J-ville or the WR screen on 3rd and goal from the 10 against the Rams.

They would also have to have the foresight to totally abandon the running game when you go up 17-0 against the Colts.

McNair is so screwed with this franchise. He better figure out something to keep OC Shanahan here and to keep this coaching personnel together.

Kyle Shanahan will join his father if he coaches in the NFL this season, according to KRIV.

Should be interesting to see how we fill this void. Shanahan was essentially the OC and QB's coach, so we have to bring in at least one person to fill his spot. I could see Kubiak taking over play-calling duties once again and just hiring a QB coach to groom as a coordinator, perhaps.
