This may be in another thread I have not read, but the new Whitehouse.gov website is awesome. I am very excited about the approach of leveraging technology to build transparancy, dialogue and citizen input. Thank you Mr. President. link Check it out if you haven't yet.
What is really different about it? I really haven't spent much time on the site before, unless a link from Google took me there.
Just the part about putting proposed legislation out before the public for discussion prior to sending a bill over to the Congress, the personal blog stuff like that... Did Bush have the same thing and I missed it?
Instead of putting the legislation out to the wider public where it will be subject to the rantings and ravings of kooks and the ignorant legislation should be put onto Clutchfans.net D & D for the learned minds there to debate and discuss it. Also all Rockets' coaching and head office decision should be submitted to Clutchfans GARM before being implemented.
I don't think it was, although I never went before. Obama's first day has been pretty good so far. Capping pay raisies for his aides and making steps to ensure his administration is more open to the public. (although surely and rightly so, he shouldn't put everything out there)
This could be interesting. I'm not going to jump on anyone's bandwagon just yet, but a real and visible devotion to transparency is a necessary part of any effective and accountable Federal servant. (can we even call them that anymore? If they are servants, then they're not our servants.) http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/change_has_come_to_whitehouse-gov/
This is definitely promising, but let's give it a year or so before patting Obama on the back too hard. One great thing Obama did for this country is educate the public on the process of presidential elections. Specifically because of his campaign, we all know a lot more than before. If whitehouse.gov does the same thing regarding the issues we face as a country, I'll give major props to Obama. This "change", by itself, would prove Obama is not all talk and no action. But let's not start up the band too soon.
Thats cool. I would seriously doubt the Bush Administration would have done a blog(just imagine the press on that). He is the first president really into the the tech age which is one thing I like about him.
This is indeed different. I used to look at the old whitehouse.gov once a month a so. (That's probably why my house was ransacked a few times over the last few years ). Seriously, I believe the best way to run things, as any executive or admin, is to make tons of info available. People don't typically spend the time to wade through it, but it cuts a lot of conspiracy theories and mystery off at the knees. A guy once gave me this advice: distrust and discontent are anaerobic. It dies in light and air. (bacteria reference, which I may or may not have right.)
