I know, people are a little bit sick of the Krypto-Nate thing, but anyway I went to the Knicks-Pacers game two nights ago. My second MSG visit of the season. Really fun to watch game - even though they're still sub .500 the Knicks are just eons better to watch and enjoy than they were the last few seasons under Isiah/brown etc. The tone is much better overall. Harvey Araton has an NYT Column about Nate and Lee today, but what makes them fun to watch are 1) the no defense style, which has faults but keeps it interesting 2) David Lee and his incredibly sneaky effectiveness, and 3) Nate. A lot of people thought he was a punk during the whole Carmelo Anthony-Mardy Collins fight thing, but honestly I never thought he was that bad. And he can be incredibly effective player, he's super quick and is a really good finisher for his size. He was pretty much unguardable on Monday (put in 42, travis Diener will see him in his nightmares) and is surprisingly good at grabbing rebounds. On one play which probably made it to sportscenter, He drove the lane, pulled up and took a midrange jumper from the left elbow, then followed his shot, grabbed it in midair off the rim and put it back in in one motion - honestly it looked like he basically teleported himself from the key to underneath the hoop, it was sweet. He has a lot of fun playing the game which is almost contagious, Will ferrell was at courtside, Nate is a huge fan, they took pictures before the game and then Nate was high-fiving him after every bucket as they play Will's catchphrase from talladega nights everytime nate scores at MSG. He has faults obviously, doesn't play much D (as does anybody on NY, they made Jarrett Jack and Marquis Daniels and Troy Murphy look like Run TMC) but anyway, you can't help but root for him.
He's finally fit into a system where he can play. I've never liked the guy, but he's starting to step up on that team. Good for him.
He wouldn't put up the same numbers, but he's pretty quick off the dribble. He's not quite as straight-line fast as Brooks but he's a bit stronger, a bit craftier, and a better leaper/finisher. A half court team that lets him ISO can create serious mismatches, and he's a decent shooter. Not lights out but not a total liability either.
I used to dislike Nate Robinson strongly because I thought he was an out-of-control borderline psychopath even before the Melo/JR Smith fight. When that incident happened it merely sealed the deal for me. But it seems like somebody got his attention, gave him good advice and he's followed it by cleaning up his act and channeling his aggression and skills the right way. I love watching him play. The guy has a zest for basketball like few others and he leaves it on the court every game (at least the ones I watch). It will never happen but if Nate Robinson would learn how to distribute the ball, he would go to another level. But being an energy guy and sparkplug off the bench is nothing to be ashamed of. Talent-wise, he is far ahead of AB but AB can play like a true PG. He and D'Antoni's Knicks are made for each other.
Wasn't he in a horrid shooting slump earlier this year? I watched a few Knicks games on LP and it was brick after brick.
Probably, he's fairly streaky, but anyway over three seasons he's established his baseline as that of a 44-34-78 shooter, with little deviation, who can get to the line, giving him a very nice TS% in the low to mid 50's - I'll take that over guys named Rafer as far as shooting goes. (to give you an idea, Kevin Durant is hitting a hyper-elite TS% this year at .587, rafer is a career 49% with an anchor)
I don't like him being in the dunk contest. But as a player I think he's underrated and pretty good. He's exciting to watch especially putting up the numbers he has the last few games off the bench.
I hate Nate I think he is one of the top players who still havent realizes that Nba is not a thug life league
Nate is fun to watch, and he has been putting up some decent numbers since last season under Isaiah Thomas. He looks like he is going to be D'antoni's new Barbosa. In any case, a year or two from now, the knicks are going to be reallyyy fun to watch.
How is Nate Robinson representing the thug life? He got into 1 fight on the court. Did you guys consider the NBA to be thuggish back in the day?
His enthusiasm,energy, hustle and scoring ability at such a small size is amazing, he is another reason why I watch the Knicks, along with David Lee's play.
I follow him closely because he's on my fantasy team. He was good early, then got on a HORRIBLE shooting slump and then has been great as of late. I watch his games on League Pass too. The guy hustles, has decent offensive awareness, and has great athleticism (but we all knew that). He also poses way too much and can be totally selfish with his offensive game. He needs a lot more discipline and basketball IQ to become a great player...but he's damn good at times. His shooting slump btw didn't prevent him from shooting like there was no tomorrow.
