link By the way, last night before the Rox/Suns game I flipped to the Nicks/Calv channel, happened to catch the Nate "block" Yao dunk replay. I was thinking, nowadays a scrub can make a name for himself by just making a punk play on Yao, and ESPN and fans are buying it.
Him winning the dunk contest was cool and all but talk about Napoleon complex. I hate seeing him jump up and grab the rim on dead balls. it is annoying. Nate, we know you can dunk, you can relax now.
Nate made a name for himself in college, not by blocking Yao this season. Not sure if you guys followed him at all but he was one of the most electric and popular players in his draft. He has already made some unbelievable plays in the NBA and he just needs to learn how to play smarter. He's already averaging 10ppg which is really good for a 5-9 sophomore.
I know. But, I doubt even the dunk that won him the slam dunk championship (not deservingly IMO) got as many replays as his block on Yao.
Probably not, but the dunk wasn't as impressive as the block on Yao IMO and besides the Sports Center after All-Star Weekend, highlights from the Dunk Contest really aren't shown that much, the block was in a game situation. I hated watching the replay over and over but a 5-9 guy blocking your 7-6 All-Star Center is replay worthy IMO.
By far one of the stupider plays I've seen. A tight game in the second quarter and you pull a Francis? At least Francis was way ahead of the field, Nate had a guy on his tail.
It's funny that NO ONE brings up the fact that Yao barely got off the ground when he took that shot. Factor that with how high his reach is it's not that impressive. If Robinson can easily dunk (meaning he has no problem reaching his hand over the rim), that block was more expected than surprising.
Nate's reminding me more and more of this guy You may think, nice dunk Francis, but what about the extra 3 steps he took to bounce the ball from half court
i don't really remember that dunk. did francis get called for a violation? he definitely didn't do anything wrong with the bounce and dunk but did he get called for traveling after initially catching the ball (seems like the type of traveling they usually let slide)?
He never got called for a violation, but should have. Before he made the bounce pass - it is evident that he has the ball in his hands for about 4 to 5 steps (really fast steps which made it less noticeable).
Wow.. Nate Robinson... what a bad@ss! I gotta give props to Isaiah though.. basically having the same type of players in SF3, Starbury, and Nate. If he can win games with egotistical showboaters like them.. that's praise worthy.
Technically it's not.. since the NBA does let some of the guards out there take 4-5 steps before a dunk a lot of times. There's just no love for Nate.. that's all
Regardless of how high Yao jumped (or didn't jump) having your 5-9 guard block anyone, especially the tallest player in the NBA is hardly expected.
The ref was standing right next to Steve when he traveled and he let the play go. Its clear as day. You don't just miss 4 or 5 steps without a bounce. They let the play go although they shouldnt have, and Nate needs to stop listening to Marbury and Francis or his career is doomed.
Forget the alley-oop thing and focus on the fact that he was dribbling the ball. Since moving while in possession of the ball is illegal without dribbling, and a player cannot receive his own pass, the last bounce he made must be assumed to be a dribble. So, even though he dribbled it exceptionally hard on the last one, he was still in the act of dribbling (legally speaking). That said, if you take 3+ steps after one dribble but before the next - it's traveling, of course. Did that make any sense?
