Let me say this that I have never paid much attention to nascar in the past. Sure, I'd watch the "big" races but I would quickly lose interest in all those "right turns." But something happened last year. I just started finding the sport infinitely interesting. Then I went to a nationwide race and now I am hooked. I am watching both the nationwide series and the sprint cup series like a crack addict. I have even adopted a favorite driver, Greg Biffle! I guess the next thing will be in-law dating. LOL! I guess what I am saying is the traditional sports of Basketball, Baseball and Football, is taking a back seat to nascar and another of my favorite sports to watch, Bull Riding.
I saw the end of the race last week and when it was over I thought to myself how stupid this sport really is. I mean it's for a bunch of hicks and rednecks. I have no respect for this sport, its drivers, sponsors, or fans. I can't believe it has so many followers probably more than basketball. It's comical when the winners cry. How do you feel about driving 500 miles in a circle on a Sunday afternoon? Get a freaking life
The pot hole delay was an egregious mistake, but the race finally itself was extremely exciting. I'm sure that you could say that a basketball game is just ridiculous, trading baskets for 46 minutes until the last two minutes of the game. Get a life indeed.
What I don't understand is how a guy can be in 20-25th place for 500 miles, then move all the way up to 2nd place in the last 3 miles. Seems like the first 500 miles are worthless.
NASCAR peaked in the early 2000s, and is now starting to come down in popularity. To me, it's still too much of a good ol' boys sport.
I'm certainly no expert on it, but the 490 miles or so that lead up to the final laps, teams are trying to fine tune their cars to perform better. Also, a lot of drivers are trying to keep their cars out of trouble. They are testing strategies and what not. What I've learned is that most of the star drivers ARE ALWAYS going to be their at the end. Nascar is a team sport and you have to remember that the pit crew and the crew chief are VERY important to the race day goings on.
I'm still waiting for a much faster, deadlier, combat based racing sport before I start giving a crap.
