OK, I guess. I don't think she has the experience and management skills to tackle DHS by herself. I like the fact that she's been a US Attorney and that she seems to understand the Incident Command System, which needs to become more than a buzzword to the response agencies, but her success will depend greatly on the people she has around her and the folks named to head the agencies. She's dealt with border issues, but I think it's more reactive and less from a leadership position. Beyond that, there will be lots of new stuff for her. I do hope Obama follows through and cuts FEMA off from DHS. I wouldn't mind seeing the Coast Guard freed up a bit too. I also hope she is as good a manager as advertised... if not, this could be the most questionable of Obama's picks so far. Still, she starts off with a measure of good will as she is a big fan of Monty Python.
In case anyone was not yet totally convinced of the complete idiocy involved with DHS and particularly the TSA, the taxpayers just paid to have airport security stations equipped with..... Karaoke You have got to be kidding me.
It was donated. Did you read the article? Where does it say it was funded by taxpayers? "For the past few holiday seasons, the airport has had school choirs perform Christmas carols in the concourses to lift spirits during the one of the most stressful travel times of the year. This year, an employee offered the use of a professional-grade karaoke machine he usually brings to his mother's nursing home to entertain the residents. The karaoke donor — Rob Mason, a supervisor in the part of the airport that oversees passport control — also volunteered at the karaoke stand. Wearing a tuxedo on Thursday, he acted as a conductor to keep singers on beat and filled in the gap between songs with his own performances.
Two random thoughts: 1. I support whatever it takes to get Yen spent in Houston. 2. DHS Officer: "I'm sorry Mr. Mohammed, but I'm going to need you to step aside for a closer inspection. Please join that line of bearded men. While you wait, you can browse our list of Christmas Carols and pick a song to sing karaoke."
Out of curiosity, what was written in the first half or so of the article that led you to believe this was paid for by taxpayers?
Looking back over it, there is no indication. Call it DHS prejudice, if you will. (A prejudice that is well-deserved, IMO). I apologize nonetheless.
