So, obviously, the assumption is we don't get lucky in the lottery.

I don't have a good handle at all who will possibly be there at 12 or 13, but I'll give it a shot.

I don't think Rodney White will be there, nor Dasagna Diop. If either one were, I would take them.

    1. Richard Jefferson
    2. Joe Johnson
    3. Ken Johnson

I don't think I would take Woods, because we need a center that can rebound and play defense, but Wallace or Gasol would be okay. Morris might be there and he might be worth a shot.

    1. Loren Woods, I don't know why but after watching a little bit more of him at the tourney, I am won over.

    2. Terrence Morris, Unimpressive senior year, but young, tall, athletic is always good. Not to mention his shot-blocking ability, jumpshot, okay ballhandling, and friendship with Stevie.

Imagine that, three terps on our team.

This is a tough to predict, but I'll do what I can.

Pick #1-If his value is right here, Loren Woods. If not, Randolph, White, or Murphy, in that order.

Pick #2/3-If Woods has slipped out of the lottery, package one of the picks with KT for a slot that would get him. If you got Woods, then pick one out of Gasol, Morris, and Fotsis, and one out of Ken Johnson, Alvin Jones, Steven Hunter, Samuel Dalembert and Jason Collins. (in that order).

    2. Ken Johnson (defensive, shot blocking center)
    3. Terrence Morris or Rodney White (tweener- SF/PF)

    3. Rodney White

There are several players I would want after Jefferson that I would be fine with-- but I see Jefferson as the perfect fit and compliment for this team, and there's no doubt if he's on the board I would take him.

He isn't an amateur so could the Rockets take him with the 3rd first round pick and wait till next year (a la Wang Zhi-Zhi in the 1999 draft)?

From most to least favorite I like: Bradley, White and Woods. If they are all three gone, I could live with Morris/Jefferson/Wallace. I'd be disgusted if at 12/13 we drafted either Haywood (unmotivated like a center we already have) or Murphy (slow footed, no hops, inside/outside college game that doesn't translate into the NBA like an injury prone clod we utterly wasted a 15th pick on last year). However, I'd happily package 2 of this years first round picks to move up for Battier if possible.

I think the Rockets will package these picks for an established player (some teams are looking to dump salaries and players that don't fit). We can rebuild quickly; why fart around with a glorified college team for another couple years if we don't have to?

Still, I would like to get Terrence Morris. Sure, he might not be worth the #13 pick, but I don't want to lose out on this opportunity. He's tall and lean with long arms, a solid defender who can run the floor, post up, shoot the 3. The new zone rules should play to his strengths. And he's Steve's bud. (Someone else pointed all this out, so maybe I should just say, "I agree.")

If we re-sign Mo (a maybe/maybe not), we should have $$$ for Marc Jackson at center anyway. Golden State sucks, so he should come here, no problem. So I don't worry about drafting a center. The really good centers will be gone by the time we draft.

Richard Jefferson would be a great pick. I have seen reports of prior injuries and his stats do indicate turnovers though.

If Ely, Fresno State, comes out, he looks good to me also, but as a late first rounder.

I would like some consideration towards getting Tarvis Williams, Hampton U, too bad we don't have a second round pick.

    3.Pau Gasol

Bradley is likely to be gone before the 12th or 13th pick.Richard Jefferson might be available,I think he would be a good replacement for Shandon Anderson.Gasol would be a good 3rd pick if we could wait until next year like Dallas did with Zhi-Zhi,but I he would have to declare for the draft in order to be picked.I thought about Woods as well but he didn't show enough defensive intensity in the finals this year.

Lets be realistic though, no Curry, Richardson, JWill, and Griffin

1st pick-Gerald Wallace-will be go to player when he reaches his potential he was predicted to be the best 3 to come out of high school in 20 years a year ago but had a rough season, may not come out
2nd pick-Loren Woods-a big step down form the premier posts in this draft, but better than Collier. Rudy loves seniors and this guy has talent if he can put on weight
3rd pick-Pau Gasol-will play one more year with Barcelona, but Phoenix big ban from Greece said the same thing (Jake Tsk). 7'1'' small forward with a shot and leaping ability not to mention 20, may not come out either

These guys would fit in with our system and in a year or two we would have one hell of a line up

I wouldn't bet on us going top 3 in the lotto or winning the Webber sweepstakes, although we do have a chance. So heres my summer ideas/hopes list and I'm gonna expand this just a bit. If a Woods drops in the Lotto and nobody hears it I say the Rockets pick it up and turn the guy into our next center. The guy just needs good guidance and weight training. All other 4 & 5's don't interest me too much except for Yao, Zach, and the High School big kids, but that ain't happening so look for these guys for the 3 spot in descending order for our lotto pick. Battier(won't fall this far and maybe not as talented as any of the other 1st round 3's in the draft but his impact will be instant & consistent like a cross between Sean Elliot and Eddie Johnson which will be quite nice), Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Paul Gasol, Rodney White, and Rod Grizzard. I'm not sure that even half those guys are coming out but heres hoping. If none of those are available I wouldn't pick Morris or Jefferson till our Bucks pick(Morris will last and eventually with time & Stevie would be well worth it). One thing we might do is pick up the best point(Tinsley or the other Williams, Frank from Illinois) at our spot in an arranged deal with Boston for one of their picks a few slots ahead of us. A couple of free agent ideas to add to the mix are of course Marc Jackson who should like us and we could use though I want Hakeem much much more. Jerome Williams does all those things Mo Taylor doesn't without being a real scorer but is worth a look. Gary Trent might... oh nevermind. But a real prize that is gettable and affordable would be Eddie Robinson from the Hornets. He's a restricted free agent and they can only chase him up to 4.5 mil to start although I bet Detroit will give chase also seeing as he's a native of Flint, MI, is a 6'9 swingman with a vertical at 40, and is really effectively improving his shot, and learning an overall game that his skills will really be perfect for. All this at an oh so ripe 24 years of age. I'm telling you he'll definitly be the best Flintstone in the NBA. Can you say EDDIE!!! I'll say this the Rockets picked a pretty good last year in the lottory. This draft is extremely weak in the gaurds (even if you consider Richardson a gaurd) and sronger than usual at the 3 and the 5 spots. This Franchise is not afraid to make a move and they should realize that after some tinkering this team just needs a little patience. Remember too that having Dream back is important I think we should offer him 5 mil for the year which will beat all exceptions offered to him from teams with a contending chance. Oh yeah and both lotto heaven and Webber could happen so just Dream of the possibilities.

Hello? I guess no one saw my post on Gasol or Gerald Wallace

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000604.html

As I was saying, I would love to have either one because of the mismatches they can cause. Gasol, in particular, could possibly solve either problem we might have by being the 3 or 4. In some instances, he might be able to play a little 5 as long as its not against Shaq or Mutombo.

I think Gerald Wallace is an extremely talented player that can evantually be a star in this league. In baseball terms, he is "a five-tool player" He has size, quickness, ability to run, defend, and can score from all spots on the floor. He can post up or take it to the basket. A decent passer as well.

I hope we get a shot at one or both of these guys.

    13)Micheal Bradley 6-10 PF
    ?)Ken Johnson 6-11 C
    ?)Richard Jefferson 6-7 SF

Also, screw Webber, and instead sign Marc Jackson away from Golden State.

Okay, this is the third post in this thread (so far) that mentions Jackson as the supposed savior at C.

Jackson is so raw offensively, that master chefs in Tokyo have considered naming a Japanese delicacy after him. His movement is so awkward, I'm surprised 80s super-band, Toto, have not written a song in his honor: "The wild dogs cry out in the night as they grow restless...[watching Marc Jackson]...as sure as Kilimanjaro, [rise and fall] like Olympus above the Serangetti."

There is no saviour at center. But he scores outside and inside and REBOUNDS. He grabs a fair share of offensive boards. I read an article in USA Today (McPaper) about him; he boards WITH ENTHUSIASM (yells out when he grabs the ball). So, if we can please God dump Cato, he would be a good pick-up. We would also help weaken an already weak team and help prevent the Warriors from rising in the West (although they've never proven they can do so).
