Actually, I waited a few weeks after I got my dog to name him. I wanted to figure out his personality and habits before I saddled him with a name.

since i'm from holland i do not think alot of people would understand why i named my dog after a german (they do not even understand i have a jersey of Nowitzki). officially a white shepard was called (in holland) and american canadian white shepard. now it is just a white shepard

I've always thought "Tater" was a good name for a dog.

Just be careful with the name. Growing up, my dog was BJ and my friend's dog was Woody. Our parents had named these dogs without being aware of the connotations of these names. Though they probably weren't popular slang back then.

When my husband was in elementary school, his parents brought home a female basset hound and allowed him and his twin brother to name it. Those boys were/are weird. They named it "Girl", since everyone was going to say "Come here, girl!" to the dog anyway.

They didn't get to name the next pet.

In college we had a husky/clow mix we named "Guinness" becasue his color so closely resembled the beer.

I always thought that was a good name.

I got two boxers that I own. One's name is Cassius, after Cassius Clay :D And the other is a girl named Maxine. We got her around when Vernon Maxwell was playing for us, and would go crazy and deem the name Mad Max. So her name is "Mad Max" Maxine, and her son who's like 2x times bigger then her is Cassius. :D Boxers are great dogs, and I just love them. They're very protective around children, but not in the sense that you would think, like they'll snap at anyone that gets near my nieces. More along the lines when my nieces were just babies and they'd walk around near the sidewalk around our pool, the dogs would get between the babies and the pool and lead them away from the pool to make sure the babies wouldn't run risk of falling in. But they do other things like that, that are just flat out cool too. And they're the only dogs I know where playing for them is fighting. They don't give eachother flesh wounds or anything, but it's hilarious to watch them run around our yard, try and stop and skid for a good 5 feet, then paw eachother on eachothers backs into submission. And they're beautiful dogs too :D

That boxer story is cool. My in-laws used to have a standard poodle who would "babysit"; if one of the children tried to wander off, he would get their mother's attention. There are some neat dogs out there.
