i think you have to wait a while longer than 1 rookie revue game to make that determination...it is also important to remember that the rockets had the mavericks draft langhi and the mavericks had the rockets draft najera...if the trade was not in place, the rockets may have drafted someone other than najera ------------------ [This message has been edited by bobrek (edited July 23, 2000).]
Im just waiting for soone to comment on this situation. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
How predictable, one game, not even a pre-season game, but a Rocky Mountain Revue game, and people are hailing Rudy a drunkass for trading Najera for Langhi. Ok, maybe not that far. But, one little meaningless game does not a player make. I know this summer league is used as a barometer of a player's improvement, but please, to say Langhi is a bust and Najera is the next Malone is a tad premature. Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. We live for the journey.
University, Najera was a preseason All-American and ended up 3rd team All-American. The only reason he wasn't player of the year in the Big 12 is because of the unbelievable year Marcus Fizer had. I'm tellin you man, Najera is better than Mihm and can play head to head with Fizer and those 2 players were lottery players. We really could have gotten the steal of the draft if we would have kept him. If it was a prearranged deal then we should have moved up to #30 and taken him. He's that good. And to say 1 game doesn't make a player, well then look at his college career. There were many occasions where he made Mihm or Fizer his personal b****. I think Mihm is okay, but he never had a great game against Eduardo and OU. Eduardo always had his best games against Texas. But let's not get into that because those games were probably abberations for Mihm because he had a lot of great games in college, just none against El Hoopo. If you want to see one of the great college duels of the year then you should somehow get the Iowa St.-OU game from January. That game epitomized the type of players Eduardo and Marcus were in a great duel where OU prevailed somehow in 2OT with 7 straight free throws from El Hoopo but man did Fizer have a good game. ------------------
Hey this is my first post,& this is something I feel quite strongly about. I realize it's just a Revue game but we shoulda, and I'm sure Rudy did, know the strength of Najera pre-trade. OF COURSE we made a HUGE mistake in trading him! Top of round 2 , this years NCAA tourny, the press is ridin' Eduardo for being weak from outside....in the next game...18 hrs later...the kid sinks 10 3's!!(just 1 example, the guy can ball!) We've made a huge error & I feel the Gods may punish us for it (Besides do we REALLY WANT to help Dallas build a team?) ------------------ [This message has been edited by cson (edited July 23, 2000).]
Time will tell......... ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
Yes, it is only the first game and it's not an official NBA Game, But look at the stats from his University days.I think he will be awesome, something like Keith Van Horn, maybe Dirk Nowitzki. What do you think? ------------------
This is only the start of Najera's b****-slappings against our weak front court. If the Rockets don't do something quick I might just have to convert to a Mavs fan full-time because the Rockets continue to disappoint me in the draft while the best owner in the league Mark Cuban goes out and buys a playoff contender and eventual Title contender. Nah, I don't think I will convert because I love the Rocks too much, but the Mavs have really opened up my eyes lately. ------------------
Was Najera even considered for the Big 12 all-conference team? There is no way Najera will be better than the SEC player of the year. Najera reminds me of Bill Hanzlik -- a lot of hustle and sweat. Langhi reminds me of Vandeweghe (?) -- same kind of talent, but much more confident. Time will tell. ------------------ Forget regrets or life is yours to miss.
You guys are right, its only the first game. These guys need to play better than what they did. Kenny Thomas is better than that and Moochie can do more. Those two guys right there should be leading this team in most categories(scoring!!!!#1). I mean Collier is a 7'0 PF(not a center), Langhi 6'10 SF (not a PF) and both will take time to develop. Mark Young seems to have had the best game. Pope is a team player who works hard. I like to hear Tyrone Washington has bulked up and is blocking shots. I think he has a chance to make the team at least on the IR(defending Shaq, Robinson, Duncan and Mourning). Not sure about the rest but they need to play better. ------------------
Mark Cuban is a great owner and he doesn't take crap from Dennis Rodman or Peter Vecsey. He can be a little overbearing at times like Jerry Jones. I would rather have kept Najera, but Langhi will surprise alot of people. Sure Langhi was SEC player of the year but he played at VANDERBILT. Langhi was the team. How successful was Vandy in the tourney? even in the SEC tourney? I'm not saying Langhi will suck. He is a great find. I hope he can be another Robert Horry. Yes, Rudy is a drunkass for drafting Collier. ------------------ Home of Rashard Lewis and the Mighty Rams - Alief Elsik
Langhi was much better than his outing in both of the games showed. I was camping rather than watching the game on Sunday, but in the first game, Langhi was definitely trying to fit in. Najera had free reins and was certainly impressive playing with a team that he had already played an entire revue with. Interestingly Najera scored only 6 points on Sunday (though a friend assured me he was pretty active). I'm still pretty optimistic about Langhi. I hope to see something positive about Collier soon, though. ------------------ The ClutchCity 500.
I don't believe in Najera. He is an overachieving scrub. Langhi has more potential. Whether he taps into it remains to be seen. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Damn it SooneRockStro, Just when I was starting to have respect for your posts, you come back and say crazy things. As you may well know, I like Najera OK. He is a scrappy player, and I like that type of player. But NEVER did he make Fizer "his b****" as you call it. I am sure you already know this, but they split games with very comparable numbers. The first game was a 2 OT victory for OU - 80-75. The second, however, was a 70-58 Iowa St. victory. Game 1 Fizer - 20 and 6 Najera - 25 and 14 I saw this game, and Najera did grab a lot of boards....he also went 8-11 from the line. Fizer had the luxury of Tinsley and Nurse also having big games. Game 2 Fizer - 22 and 9 Najera - 19 and 9 A very good battle between these two players. I won't take away from Eduardo, but he did not dominate Fizer, nor vice versa. This was good basketball. There were no "b****es." Mihm on the other hand...... ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------ [This message has been edited by HOOP-T (edited July 25, 2000).]
I fail to see this brilliance that Najera possesses. He has determination and hustle... but not enough athletic ability to make it in the NBA. What position is this man going to play? The faster SFs will EAT HIM ALIVE. That said, I do think Najera will find a place in the NBA. I'm guessing he'll be a nice guy to have off the bench, perhaps putting in 8 pts and 4.5 boards a night. He just isn't blessed with the same natural ability as other players. Look, the Rocky Mountain Revue is a place where he can shine: he's fairly polished, and the other players generally don't have the kind of athleticism he'll have to face in the NBA. Soonrockstro: please forgive us if we don't completely buy the hype about Najera coming from a Sooner's fan. I wouldn't listen to UTballer about Mihm's potential, just like I wouldn't expect you to believe that Chris Hovan's going to be the best defensive end drafted this year (go BC). Supporting your team is great, but objectivity is important in evaluating a player. Too small, too slow, not a good enough shot. ------------------ [This message has been edited by haven (edited July 25, 2000).]
Oh, and another thing....UT and OU split games also, but ironically, Mihm and Najera played better in the games their teams lost. Mihm did have a 21 and 12 game against OU in the 2nd meeting.....I would say that was a pretty good showing. Anyway, no OU vs. UT battles please. I agree with Haven, Najera will find a place in the NBA, but I do not believe he will excel per say. I do think Fizer will develop into a good NBA caliber player. He just has better skills. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
Numbers how they lie. If you seriously think Mihm played good against Eduardo then you must be looking at numbers because he was non-existant in 2 of the 3 games. He is okay but Eduardo has proven time and time again that he is a good player who could be a star. He's in my top 5 for ROY right now and we'll have to see what happens. Top 5 right now are 1)Martin 2)Fizer 3)Swift 4)Alexander 5)Najera ------------------
Mihm is OK. I am not high on him. My main points were regarding Fizer. I saw those two games and Fizer was no b****. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
