Anyone ever lived in Nacogdoches? I'm moving to SFA territory and want some recommendations on places to live. I know of a few websites that have ratings etc, but I'm curious if any of you have lived in that town. Been using this http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/TX-Nacogdoches.html and this http://www.apartmentfinder.com/resu...MaxPrice=-1&CRadius=0&CState=TX&CSearchType=1
Don't pick Chevy Chase on E. Starr Ave. It was a good location to the campus IMO but now they have apparently built some new apartments adjacent to it which serve as housing for creepy characters. A guy(reviewer) living there said they are all rednecks, pyschotics, drug dealers, and lowlifes...and that it appears to be some Housing & Urban Development affair (otherwise described as "nice place to live for ghetto people with no money" (reviewer's words...not mine)). He also said these ghetto peeps had bad cars...and would rob the nicer cars at Chevy Chase. I only bring it up as I lived there for a few years while going to school. It felt like it was just outside of town...and at least before the development...there were some excellent mountain bike trails in the woods right across the street from it. Some really hard workouts in that area riding those damn hills (ask updawg...who banged his noggin up on one (stitches)). I liked the location and the apartment at the time...many, many years ago (13 to be exact). Feels like an eternity ago. lol
I'm about 45 mins up the road from there....I know some ppl in Nac and will ask them about apartments the next time I talk to them.
wow, chevy chase was nice back in the day. I lived in Pecan park which is right next to the intramural fields and pecan park, very convenient to campus. I assume it would be good for students still, I think I was apt #1. I'll have to dig deep in the memory banks to remember the rest. I believe they were on/off pearl street, that was a good area to be in for students. Don't overlook renting a house either. King Cheetahs and Surfguys comments are right on. Attending SFA is a privilege, so do us proud.
I lived at Sunridge for a year. It wasn't a bad spot at all. The pool was a good place to hang during the summer. There are actually a lot of townhomes/duplexs to rent in town. I lived in a house behind sports shack for a while before moving into to a duplex. They built some duplexes off west Austin street north of campus. I forget what the name of it is but that place was nuts when I went there when they were first built. Ahh, good times at SFA
Oh, looking at the list i can tell you... Sunridge--lived there, good place Stonecreek---didn't seem like a bad place woodforest--not too far from campus, kinda older, you can do better... woods of sfa--the duplexs I was talking about. they were built in 2004/2005. don't expect to get much school work done there if they are like they were when they were built woodland trails seemed like a good place... There are a few names on this list that I recall but can't remember exactly which ones they were. I'd try to rent a duplex or a house personally though.
Ax' em Jacks baby!!! I'm a proud alum of SFA myself. As for apartments Classic pretty much hit the nail over the head. Sunridge apartments are pretty nice. If you have expensive taste, there's University Hill which is right next to Sunridge. Another option you may want to consider is the Grove apartments which is almost right next to Chicken Express. Their less than a year old and their theme is "fully loaded college living". You have to have a suite mate though, but its got everything. Another apartment is Cambridge Courts, those are pretty nice but there have been some wild parties there from time to time. I've had a lot fun in all of those apartment complexes, lol.
Best place I ever lived in Nac was at the Market downtown.............old building converted to apartments. Hardwood floors, twenty some-odd foot ceilings and kegs every weekend.
I'm trying to narrow it down now. Thanks so much for the input guys. I'm down to the wire trying to find a place to live, first place I called was University Hill but they had no places till around Oct. bleh About to look at some more Cambridge and Sunridge... I don't need a Furnished place, so the Grove is out but it looks nice.
Are there any other duplex locations too? Hard to find much of anything on the internet until names are found lol. Guess I'm going to have to make another trip up there to search for housing.
Lived in Nac from 1977 till 1993 and loved it. So long ago though that I doubt I could help with living there now. During that period, cheap rental houses were plentiful and preferable to apts. It's probably been 3-4 years since I was back even to visit in-laws. Some of the apartments already mentioned existed back then. Avoid any apartments/houses that border the two creeks. Major flood issues.
You might also want to check Northridge Arms which is directly across the street from the campus on North Street.
I ended up doing an application for SunRidge. I'm waiting for approval for the lease signing etc. I have a few questions for people who lived up there. One being, is everything up there Dallas sports related? In order to watch the Texans am I going to have to get NFL pass or whatever it's called?
I grew up near there and the Cowboys got a lot more press than the Oilers. Sports was basically highlights/interviews of the Cowboys and a 5 second blurb about the Oilers. Watching Texans games shouldn't be a problem though since the Texans are in the AFC and are on a different channel. I'm pretty sure they'll show all of their games there. The Rockets may be tougher to watch since both them and the Mavericks are on FSW, they should have an alt station in case of any conflicts though. Somebody that lives there now could probably answer that better.
When I was there (early '90s) it was definitely Cowboys and I'm sure it still is. But you will get the Texans as the above said. Back then we used to get Rocket home games on FSN and Astros. It wasn't Mav's or Ranger's.
