link I'll translate here Nachbar’s interview that was made for Slovenian internet page. I’ll be translating only that parts that might interest you guys, and leave out the other stuff. Q: What have you been doing in the period between NBA season end and start of national team training camp (for Euro Championship qualifiers) A: I’ve ended relatively soon last season, so I had a short break (vacation). Then I came back to the US and trained individually for five weeks. I haven’t trained so much on my condition, but instead I focused on my technique. Then I went back to Slovenia, took a short break and now I’m ready for the national team. At the moment I’m not in the best form, but then again this is normal for this period. I’m glad that all players are here and that we all came well fit (ready). Q: Probably when qualifications will end you’ll go right back to Houston? A: Yes. Right after qualifications I’ll go back to US. I’ll meet with my teammates on 1st October when we’ll start preparing for the new season. So, there won’t be any time left for regeneration after the qualifications. Q: Your expectations in the new NBA season aren’t so small right? A: Yes. After a very good ending of last season and after summer talks with my coach, I really expect quite a lot this year. Coach told me that he’ll be disappointed if I won’t make a step forward. I expect to get more minuets and a bigger role in the team. After all this will be my third season in the NBA and I’m not so inexperienced anymore. Q: In the off-season Houston and Orlando made a trade. With T-Mac you have gotten a player who needs (uses) a lot of balls and that not so good for you right? A: Hmm,… I wasn’t so happy with the trade, but the reasons are completely personal. With all the three players that are leaving Houston (Francis, Mobley and Cato) I was really a good friend and I’ll miss them. But I would never doubt talent. After all he was the first scorer. Such a player can only bring good things, of course if he fits/adapts well to the new system/place. This is also another motive, because we’ll have even more chances for a brake thru. Not just the first round of playoffs… Q: Will there be any other changes in the team? A: The team is not finalized yet, because waiting/looking for another canter and a guard. And if we get a guard it could also affect my status in the team. Cause if we get a playmaker that it won’t affect much, I won’t lose a lot of minuets. But it could change a lot for me if we’ll get a player in position 2. That would mean that T-Mac might play some on mine position too. But all in all, I still believe that I won’t play less than last year, cause coach guaranteed me so… Q: Slovenian colony in the NBA is now even bigger (Nachbar, Nesterovic, Brezec, Udrih, Vujacic). Your comment? A: This only proves that in Slovenia we work very well with young players…. Bla, bla, bla… That’s it. I’ll keep you updated with his performances in the qualifications.
Please support your claim. Or is it these Rudy lovers trying everything possible to make JVG look bad again? Nice find by the way! I never knew Boki was that close to any of the guys that were traded.
Yeah, I don't recall reading anywhere that JVG guaranteed that. In fact, as far as I remember, we all saw the writing on the wall for a while. I'm sure that JVG told him that he would certainly get the opportunity to prove himself this season (or something along those lines). McGrady can't take every shot opened up by the absence of Cat and Francis.
Wow, thanks for the update! I love to see Nachbar get more minutes in the comming season. And he's focus on improving his technique, I assume on his shot touch. He said not was not really a shooter.
Thanks...Good read...I can't wait for the upcoming season...I'm still kinda bummed that Francis and Cat won't be here, but i'll get over it...
Thanks for the translation, and I look forward to update reports!!! JVG 'promised' SF what? Doc said SF said 'Good bye' at the end of the play offs because he knew it was sayonara, Houston.
Good article. Thanks for the translation. Good to see the coaching staff expecting a lot from Nachbar this year. I think it is clear that they want him to be a part of their bench rotation. They want him to be a guy that can log 20mpg. Jackson cant keep logging all of those minutes at SF each night. Nachbar needs to be dependable from the bench and give him some breathers. At the end of last season we saw Nachbar get much more aggressive, especially defensively. He was a spark plug off the bench and that's what we need. If Nachbar can be more consistant with his jump shot then he will find success. I still feel that Nachbar will be much more successful if this team runs an effective fast break where his slashing can be an asset. I dont think Nachbar's strength is just hanging out at the 3pt line waiting for passes for jump shots. He needs to be in motion. He needs to slash and move without the ball.
We really need Nachbar to break out this year. By "Break Out", I mean stop choking. He's got to knock down the open shot. He's got to get up for the shot quickly. He's got to move the ball and move without the ball. He's got to move his feet and stay with his man, and not hack with his arms instead. I wish I had more confidence he'd do it, but so far, he's shown me nothing. In spite of that, I really like the guy, and hope he does well. It's just hard to bank on him. He'll get his opportunity, all right. Hope you make the most of it, Bok.
