I for one would like to see him play, because he is one of the two players that we actually traded for the Dream.
Nachbar's future as a Rocket looks grim to me right now. With Rice, Hawkins, TMo, and KT ahead of him in the rotation, what chance does he have? Something bizarre or catastrophic would have to occur for Boki to get much of anything but garbage time. Furthermore, it would be cruel and unusual punishment for Boki to simply ride the bench for a year or two, or more. These are valuable years for his development. Does anyone see a plausible scenario in which Boki gets significant minutes?
Agreed. Just for once I'd like someone in the know to come out and tell the truth about a player. He's either not playing because: a) he's hurt, b) he's in Rudy's doghouse for some reason c) he's not in Rudy's doghouse but he's in his rookie house (which means he could all of a sudden start getting a ton of mintues or he may never get any) or d) he really isn't nearly as good as advertised. I have a feeling it's either (c) or (d) - I'd like to know for certain though, so I don't hold out hope that he may turn out to be something good if he ever got playing time (as was the thought for Langhi's first year here).
I think he is hurt, doesn't he have a hernia? Maybe since we got Rice and Thomas back Rudy is giving him time to heal since he would not get much playing anyway?
Yep, the 'steal' of the draft who could pop 25 of 27 3-pointers, slash, and play above the rim has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Why on earth did the Rockets draft him then? Why not a shooting guard? I saw play him at shooting guard at least during the final minutes of already decided games.
Last year the Rockets most glaring weaknesses were at the 5 and the 3. So the Rockets drafted the best available center and the best available small forward... Makes sense to me. Tmo was just not doing it and Walt was inconsistent and slow. Rice who was supposed to be the answer got injured and even before then was shooting terrible, Langhi was just not playing... The rockets got rid of a couple of their liabilities in Langhi and Walt... (Walt would be a good backup on a team with a solid three but he is not starter material anymore and Rice makes him redundant). They even tried to trade Rice thinking he won't ever be the same, but no takers... So Drafting Boki made sense... Lots of sense... But then Rice comes back healthy and has his shot back and Kenny Thomas leans down and becomes and seems to make the transition to the three spot and TMO comes into camp in excellent shape and he is hitting his outside shop with confidence and his defense is even better... Plus Juaqin Hawkins turns out to be a great find and a tenacious defender and when everyone is hurt and Boki has his only shot at winning any playing time. He gets the start and doesn't produce and he isn't quite ready for the speed of the NBA game and Hawkins takes his playing time... And now Boki is so far back in the rotation the waterboy gets more time on the court.... There is no room for Boki on our roster and it's funny how things workout... But don't think he is a total loss the kid has talent and he will learn the game and only get better and he will be a player in this league. If not for the Rockets for someone. He can shoot the outside J and he drives to hoop as good as anyone on are team he just needs to become a better defender and get some minutes and he will eventually produce... He will be a solid player in this leaugue... The problem is right now he is behind Kenny and Rice and Juaquin and probably even TMO... Strange the way things workout...
At draft time and long before practice began, the Rocks probably had no idea that Hawkins would make the team or that TMo would demonstrate offensive prowess out of the blue.
I don't think Boki's future is grim at all. He just happens to be a rookie. With KT moved to the 3 and Rice back there just is not much space for a rookie in the rotation right now. When TMo gets back it might be even worse. The good news for Boki is that Rice is old and his days are numbered. TMo's nice looking shot in the pre-season might not be the real thing and KT may decide that someplace besides Houston would make a good home for him in free agency. Who knows? Boki has talent and will be a good player. He may be the starter here some day or just a great 6th man but please give me just one single good reason to rush his developement when we have KT, Rice and TMo (soon). Also Hawk is playing great defense right now or he would not even be on the team. Boki has three years on his contract and plenty of time to make the rotation.
When do we get Tmo back anyway? I hope Tmo's game has pick up so we can*cough* get rid of Thomas. I hope Boki starts to see some mintues even if it is only 5-10 mpg.
Nachbar when healthy should be the first back up for Mobley IMHO. I dont like Moochie playing with the big two SF/CM. Nachbar could get this slot and a chance to show what he can do. Like in the last game when nobody could make a basket or free throw , then bring in some fresh blood, able to change the make up and set up of the Game, Nachbar would fit in just perfect!Of course this thinking might be too advanced for the Coaching Staff.
Yetti: That would be an ideal solution. But do we have any evidence that Boki can play the 2 spot. Certainly his basketball IQ would be higher than Mobely's. Other than that...I dunno
That's the same as choice (c). If there are other options, then why draft him? The organization knew going into the draft that they wanted KT at the 3 and they knew they had Rice as a three, and the also knew that TMo would try to compete for a spot at the 3. Essentially, its like saying they drafted for talent instead of need (a backup two guard - trade down to get if necessary), yet there apparently isn't any talent??
Why draft him if we had KT, Rice, Tmo and now Hawk? Well it is simple, FT is going to get traded and Rice will be gone in 2 years.
Two years seems like a painfully long time for the 'steal' of the draft to ride the bench. And it seems just as likely that Boki himself would be traded rather than KT. I wanna see Boki draining those 3's, but I may have to watch him do it with Dallas or Sacramento.
