Just completely stupid. If one of the marquee faces of the NFL kills someone, I can guarantee the press coverage would be even more crazy. Saying stupid things like this only makes one wonder if the NAACP (or the Atlanta chapter) is out of touch with the rest of society. I mean, does he really think that the media wouldn't go apecrap over Vick the Human Killer??

Furthermore, he SEEMS to suggest that Vick only took the deal to avoid being found guilty of a guiltless crime. At least that is my take on it.

It is so rainy here in New York City, Michael Vick didn’t need a pool to drown dogs.

The dog fighting charge may put an end to his career. As you know, the same thing happened to Rosie O’Donnell.

He faces a year and a half in prison. But I was thinking, "Shouldn’t that be a year and a half times seven?"

Did you see the Democratic debates? The loser of the debate was taken out back and drowned by Michael Vick.

Letterman's Top Ten Michael Vick Excuses

    10. "House came with a dogfighting pit, and it seemed like a shame to waste it"
    9. "Wanted to distract the public from crooked NBA referees and cheating baseball players"
    8. "Judgment was impaired by playing with lead-based Chinese toys"
    7. "I was training the dogs to ... uhhhhhh ... get Osama"
    6. "Always wanted to be quarterback for a prison team, like in 'The Longest Yard'"
    5. "Steroids made me all crazy"
    4. "Eddie Brill told me I needed something big to close on"
    3. "Oh like you've never run an illegal dogfighting ring"
    2. "Thought I could get out of it by buying Kobe Bryant's wife a diamond"
    1. "Fights weren't worse than what you see on 'The View'"

Where is the evidence that he killed someone? Why wasn't he charged with murder?

If Michael Vick got drunk and accidentally killed a dog, do you think he'd be in the position he's in? It Leonard Little intentionally murdered someone, do you think he'd be in the same position?

Intent matters. People forgive stupidity - they are not so forgiving with intentional malice.

Yeah, I'm sure if Vick had killed and tortured as many people in the same manner he enthusiastically killed and tortured the dogs he would received less negative press. Of course he would.

    Wake up.

how did you come to that "take"

White said he believes Vick cut a deal rather than roll the dice on a trial and take a chance on being found guilty, but "whatever he's done wrongly, he needs to pay for it.

well yeah, in some bizzaro world where dogs equal people and people fight other people to the death I could understand this argument. but in the real world we live in people do get killed and they don't get the press that vick got. unfortunately I couldn't find a people fighting ring for my example. sorry

I think if Eli Manning cut up dogs and did what Vick did he'd be getting the same amount of hoopla and press.

This isn't about race. It's just horrific and sensational - it's going to get written up.

Now, if the dogs were black dogs, then that might make a difference.

Not nfl, but Jason Williams(I hope that was his name) didn't get much negative publicity for killing someone.

But Ray Lewis... yeah, he stabbed someone iirc. You want evidence? How many people wanted evidence before convicting Vick?

If this isn't about race, why is the NAACP discussing it?

exactly, and then tried to cover it up and say the guy committed suicide. there are plenty of examples, but unfortuantely we can't find a human fighting ring to make it even more accurate

Well, if you want to argue that Vick would have been better off with a human crime than a dog crime, you have to pick similar crimes. It's silly to compare two crimes that are dissimilar and then say "well, the human one got less coverage. therefore, it's worse to hurt dogs".

If you can't come up with similar crimes, then what on earth are you basing your conclusion on that he'd have been better off with a human crime?

    Here's a counter-example:

    A. Person A ran over his dog while backing out of his garage
    B. Person B murdered 17 people

Person B would not be allowed in the NFL. Person A would. Therefore, it must be far worse to commit a human crime than a dog crime.

It's the sick manner that Vick treated, tortured and enthusiastically and enjoyably killed a large number dogs that get the attention. You have to understand that.

Just because you are unable to empathize with other animals doesn't mean the rest of the world is too.

Of course not. He wasn't even still in the NBA at the time of the murder, less alone an NBA star. No one covers Joe Schmoe on the street committing a murder either.

On the flipside, OJ got plenty of negative publicity for murdering someone, even though he was legally found innocent.
