Pretty cool looking board game: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1700755582/myth-0 Has a Diablo/Torchlight like feel to it with 5 different heroes who's each has their own deck of cards for abilities that acts kind of like a cool down timer (play the card, can't play it again until you draw another copy or go thru the whole deck and reshuffle). White, Green and Purple level loot. Different kinds of mobs and traps. When you level up you can switch out some of the cards in your deck for more powerful abilities. Completely co-op, has miniatures for the monsters and heroes, and promises of future expansions along with a bunch of stretch goal additions of course. It's similar to Heroquest, or Descent, but you don't have to have a player controlling the monsters, it's completely co-op. Official description: Myth is a fully cooperative game. There is no player controlling the Darkness. The Darkness is governed by a set of rules unique to each Boss Deck. Yet, the Darkness is activated through Hero actions. If the Heroes get overzealous, then the Darkness pushes back by activating Lairs, spawning Captains, and punishing the Heroes with devious Events. If the Heroes take a more subtle approach, then the Darkness reacts by reducing the potential for treasure and rewards. Without the treasures and equipment to upgrade, the Heroes will find each Act more difficult and eventually fail. The dynamic nature of the Darkness really lends a more fluid feel to the Story. Players aren't being driven by properties out of their control, nor are they being shepherded by a person whose skill has a direct impact on the enjoyment of the game. Myth setup offers players the freedom to experiment and create the Story they want. Each Act is created by placing the double-sided World Tiles in any configuration desired, then each tile is populated through random card draws (or by choice). Enemy-types, quests, treasure, merchants, and events are all variables controlled by players. Each Story is unique and breathed to life by the players.
There is a contest to win a free copy here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/960795/mercs-myth-contest-ends-apr-18th They are at $160,671, now and more stretch goals have been unlocked: Example of beta game play:
Kickstarter total is up to 233,081 with 7 days left, unlocking the elemental minion stretch goal. New stretch goals and add-on purchase options have been added: Spoiler
Up to $421k with 43 hours left on the kickstarter. With all the stretch goal additions you get a ton of models for the money even at the entry level $100 game. Spoiler
Are the addons cumulative? I see that the skeletons are included 3 times in the stretch goals. Edit, nevermind, I found this: http://www.keithloweart.com/pledge_level_tally_04.12.jpg and this That's a pretty good value per mini at the 100 and 150 levels...although there are a bit too many duplicates IMO.
There is even more stuff at this point since the totals have broken 500k now. Add on 6 more rat and elemental minions, the Rat boss, 2 more elemental and rat captains, new additonal tiles, 10 cyclops minions and 2 captains, minotaur mini-boss, metal tokens and coins and they are 24 backers away from adding the "Connor" mini-boss stretch goal.
If it hits $800k, I'll buy in for $100. Entirely possible based on Kickstarters I've watched in the past.
At $700k now with 11 hours to go, and they added another free mini-boss due to another Kickstarter project team funding the $2,000 pledge which allows you to design your own mini-boss for the game.
Well, damn. I guess I'm in. Morph- do you think the 150 level is worth that much more than the 100 level? Lots of duplicates.
It will be close, but they may reach the fire drake boss @ $900k still. @ $872k with a little over an hour to go.
I think double captain is better than the $150 apprentice level, or getting $50 worth of add-ons instead. Double captain gives double stretch goals so you get a lot more stuff, though some of it is excess that won't be needed. But it's a lot more than what you get at $150 level, and you could resell some of the extra bosses and what not that come as stretch goals. I got an extra captain and if I like the game I may keep it, or if not I can't imagine that the captain level with all the stretch goals wouldn't resell for significantly more than $100 on ebay or some other secondary market.
