I've had it 2 1/2 years and it had been working just fine. I thought I got it far enough after launch to where I might slip past the three red rings problem. I turn it on tonight, it works fine, stays on for 20 minutes while I'm watching the Astros game, i go back to it and it does a quick update, then it looks for updates for Burnout and then it tanks. Now here's my dilemna... 1) I got a Halo Edition 360. If I have to get a replacement system, I know there's no way in hell I get a Halo Edition. 2) I can't find my damn receipt. I don't know if I lost in the move from a few months ago or what. Do I need the receipt to receive service or does the three year extended warranty for the 3 rings apply to all xbox owners? Also, do I need to send my hard drive along with the console if I send it in? I don't want to lose all my data on it.
If its the RROD problem, you just have to log it on the microsoft website. It only asks you for the serial number on the system, no receipt. Mine recently got this and the turn around time was about 10 days. I got back the same exact system.
Yeah I just registered it online and got my shipping label. My warranty expired but I'm well within the 3 year extended period. What's odd though is that the system was only on for 20 minutes. I've played it much longer than that with no problem. That and it crashed right after a system update. Just doesn't seem like it was an overheating problem, but I haven't heard of any bricking problems as of late either. Guess I was on borrowed time. I just knew sooner or later this s*** would happen.
call them up and they'll send you a package to put it in and they'll fix it for you. i got mine back in a couple of days.
No, take your hard drive out before you send it. The instructions that come with the box they'll send you will tell you that too.
I just had to send my Xbox to the repair center(It's in Texas somewhere). The instructions told me that I needed to find my own packaging, but they do give you a print out that you can tape to your package. Then you just take it to your local UPS store and it will be back to you within two weeks or so.
Are you serious? WTF? Is Microsoft cutting back? When mine broke down about a year and a half ago, they sent me a box with styrfoam packing material molded to the shape of the XBOX so that if fit snuggly inside the shipping box. They mail you an almost empty box, you mail the box back with XBOX inside (paid UPS label included), they mail you back a working XBOX. Kind of cheap if Microsoft stopped doing that.
I don't think I saw anything about them shipping a box on their website. The only options I got were to print out a label myself or wait a week for a label to be shipped to me. I have to provide my own box. Maybe I have to call and talk to customer service direct, I dunno; but then why should that make a difference. Oh well.
I guess it's not a big deal but it was a nice little thing that they did. You didn't have to anything. They sent you the packing. They sent you a box that was the exact size as the XBOX + packing so everything was nice and snug. They even sent you tape to seal the box with once you put your console inside. All you had to do was take it to the UPS store. It was a very nice gesture. It's like they were going above and beyond to make things right. I'm just kind of disappointed to hear that they stopped doing that.
Correct me if I am wrong but if its software related, they fix it regardless of warranty. Just had mine go down, it was out of its Microsoft warranty but still under store warranty so I just took it back to the store I got it from and they sent it away. I was told I would get a refurbished Xbox sent back to me within a couple of weeks but ended up getting my same one back which was cool. You should get the same type of Box back. I read when mine got the RROD that a guy who had the Halo one sent it away and got back a normal white one, he then rang and complained and they said sorry and to send it back and he would get the proper one... once he did that they sent back the right Xbox, the 1 month free live that comes on repairs and also game him a $100 voucher to get a game. From what I have heard they are quite reasonable with the RROD, as long as the box is in good condition.
I recently had mine sent in as well. It was funny, the thing is well past the standard 1 year warranty. Initially, it would just freeze up on the intro XBox animation (you know the big sphere thingy). No lights or error messages or anything, but I couldn't get past that screen. I figured I was screwed because that wasn't RROD so I would have to pay to get it repaired. But then when I was trying to decide if I had the money to get it fixed, my stepson called me at work all excited because he had turned it on to try to get it to work one more time and it RROD'd on him. So we lucked out and saved $100+. Also, they did the same thing on the shipping with me. They just let me print out a UPS label and I had to pack the damn thing myself in my own box. But after I had done it I figured they had changed the options for shipping and I just didn't notice it. I assumed I could have still had the box shipped to me if I wanted. Maybe not.
No, when I called on a RROD last week, the guy offered to send me a box, or I had the *option* of using my own packaging. Obviously, if you wait for them to ship you a box, then it will be even longer before it gets back to you. I just wrapped it in bubble wrap, sealed it up tight, and dropped it off last Friday. Already received word Tuesday that the repair was done and it was being shipped back.
I remember hearing that story, but wasn't it that Bungie got involved and sent him a brand new Xbox Halo Edition with tons of Halo gear as well. Unless you're thinking of a different story. But yeah hopefully they can fix the one I got, and if not, well I better get a Halo Edition back or I'm definitely complaining. I don't want an ugly white one!
Mine just died this week less than a year after I bought it -- no RROD just freezes. I can't believe what a piece of crap these things are.
Consider yourself lucky, 2-1/2 years is a good run. I'm on my 5th one in 3 years. That will piss you off.
