    Anybody else watching these?

For anybody that doesn't know, they're both lyrics oriented game shows. Basically, the band plays a song and the contestants have to sing the lyrics exactly, or they're eliminated. Singing Bee is a fast paced mini tournament style show that starts off with six contestants, then four, then two, then the money round. Don't Forget the Lyrics is a more slow paced millionaire type show with just one contestant.

Both shows are pretty cheesy, but it's really funny watching somebody try and sing lyrics that the person doesn't know.

I've been watching both since they started last week.

I think the Joey Fatone one (Singing Bee I think) is a lot worse.. I don't know what it is about it. Maybe it's that you hear so little of each song..? Plus Wayne Brady is just funnier to me ;)

I'm gonna stop recording the NBC one I think.

I sat in a back room for ten hours as the potential "backup singer" for a contestant who didnt get chosen because her "storyline" wasnt exciting...

they also dismissed a father of two who was a personal trainer from Las Vegas. both my friend and the personal trainer drove five hours to be on the show and were put up in a fleabag motel...

they chose a bunch of nerds to be on their show and Wayne Brady was awkward...

the only thing we kept thinking was "Is Wayne Brady Going to have to choke a b****?"

I got paid $100 for my time, as did my friend the "contestant", who they promised to bring back for a second cycle...

Singing Bee is absolute crap...and the rules of the show have some pretty bad flaws.

DFTL is much better but I'd still prefer to have a karaoke style show where the contestants can sing all or most of the song and the audience votes who they liked the best...like that MTV show awhile back.

I only saw 'Bee'. Was it the first show ever on Wednesday? I think it was.

It's funny how Joey Fatone in 'Bee' only chooses people on the aisles, and the contestants are "numbered". When they lose, they are not upset or showing genuine feelings, and everyone follows the rules and steps in the right places and go to the "appropriate places" when they have to do the next segment of the show. The first season, they're all ACTORS.

It's entertaining, and it's a good premise, but they were too afraid to go wrong in their first shows, so they hired actors... you can see it a mile away. :p

the contestants are absolutely chosen from casting directors and most of them are actors or people trying to make their break in hollywood...

even the audience members are paid extras... it is like this for most taped audiences in LA... there are too many talkshows/gameshows being taped, and all the tourists only want to see Leno, Kimmell, or Ellen... they paper the audience with paid extras.... instead of saying "filmed in front of a live studio audience" they would be better off saying "filmed in front of a PAID studio audience"

I sat in on a taping of "Smarter than a 5th Grader" as well, and almost everything was staged...the kids are all actors who have stage mothers pushing them to succeed... the kids and Foxworthy wear the same costumes so they can edit and cut the shows as they please, they make the contestants react to a question they got right after they had already lost the game...

imagine that, knowing you lost the half a million dollar question, and then having to go back and retape your reaction to winning the 5 thousand dollar question...

Singing Bee is the worst show I've ever seen in my life. So boring...... No drama about it whatsoever. We watched the first two segments and were like.... Isnt this just the same thing over and over again? The first show they played a song by N'Synch and Joey looked so surprised.... CHEESY! The whole thing looks like a big production.... not entertaining.

At least with "Name that Tune" you had different segments that challenged the contestant to something.

Everytime I see this topic I get confused for a second and think you're referring to The Bird and the Bee. I've been listening to them lately, pretty good band. How's that for a thread derailment?

the Wayne brady show imho isnt even worth watching.

First off they felt the need to make the rules as complicated as possible and as similar to who wants to be a millionaire as possible.

secondly, if it has wayne brady in it you know who's gonna get most of the attention. Brady will always find a way to get his "sing" on. he can't have a mic in his hand on tv and not sing. its impossible. Yes we know you can sing wayne but the show aint about you dawg.

Seems pretty simple to me...as the questions get harder you have to fill in more blank words and get them correctly...you have three life lines to help you along the way...very similar to millionaire, including how the set looks...but I'd take that any day over the amateurish look of Singing Bee.

And the episode I saw Wayne Brady didn't once try to sing...he played the part of host quite well.
