I am a first time poster who read this board religously, and think that this is a great site for Rockets fans, and information about the team. There has been a long debate about whether or not "Steve Francis can be a point guard', to tell you the truth I think that most of that is because the Rockets back court is incompatible. I believe that with the right complement Steve Francis can be a point guard, don't get me wrong, he will never be the pure distributor that Steve Nash or Jason Kidd is, but he can be a championship level piont guard. I think the world of Cuttino Mobley, but he is best served in a six man role. It kind of reminds me of the Sam Cassell situation, where you had a guy that was very talented, but becaue of team chemistry etc. he came off the bench, and the reward of that was the Rockets maximized their scoring. If the Rockets could some how pull off a trade for an off the ball scorer (Micheal Dickerson, Derrick Anderson etc.), I believe they would have a perfect compliment to Steve Francis. No there is no one current on the roster who could fill this role, but two guy's that have to dribble to score, is just not compatible.

i would have to agree with you man. What do you think of Mobley backing up Francis at the 2, and searching for a new point guard, though ?

I don't think that would work Eric. Steve must learn to be a point gaurd. That is where he will succeed. Mobley should come off the bench as a shooting gaurd and Rockets must get a shooter to start as shooting gaurd. I agree with Kevin but we should keep Mobley. Someone like Derrick Anderson, Kareem Rush, Michael Dickerson, Wally Szczerbiak or even Brent Barry would bring the Rockets some much needed outside shooting. I love the idea of Mobley and Taylor coming off the bench. Now that would be a deep team.

So why didn't we choose KRush with our 2nd 1st round pick...

KRush, a pure shooter, would be great in a Rox uni and complement Stevie...

I would love Mobley off the bench, but I don't think we would handle it very well...

Once we get Odom this summer Steve and Cuttino's play will improve b/c they will have two players to play off of who can get them the rock in Ming and Lamar. I do think that getting a bigger guard to start in front of Mobes would help though. If we do get Lamar I wouldn't mind seeing Posey brought in to start at the 2 and back up the 3. I dont think the Rox can afford this w/out paying the luxury tax but I think it would be a great improvement.

    Steve/Mooch/Tito
    Posey/Cat/Steve
    Odom/Posey/Nachbar
    Griffin/MoT/Cato
    Ming/Cato

Just for grins, how do you suppose we are going to get Odom without giving up anything? MCE, I doubt it. You don't get a player like Odom without giving up ANYTHING, unless you have a boat load of cap room and can play highest bidder, which the Rockets do not.

Where did you get the idea that Sterling would allow Odom to be traded? I think Odom is as stuck in LA as your idea is stuck in a big old pile of horse...holy moly, would you look at the time?

And to answer my own question, I don' think that we have anything that would land us Odom. Griffin? they have two of them. Now CAT and some change might bring us Miller, but I doubt that too.

Stevie may be sending messages that he would move to '2' but his mentality is as 'the man', so he's staying at the point. Whether Cat stays or not is up in the air. Cat is good and would be an interesting Clip, if that is where the pieces fall.

What in the world makes you think Michael Dickerson will ever pan out. There is a reason the Rockets got rid of him once. They questioned his drive. Derrick Anderson, however would be perfect, but I don't think it could ever happen

With Derek Anderson's name being banted about...it gets back to Sane's nice little plan of action for the summer which I thought was a pretty interesting scenario. I really liked it and want to post it again. I think it went something like this. Sane if I miss something let me know.....

Trade Mobley/Griffin for Brand. Clippers get something for Brand before he walks for nothing. Mobley/Griffin have nice $$$ contracts for thrifty Clippers.

Trade Rice's expiring contract to the Blazers for Anderson/McInnis. Since they have an overload of pointguards and swingmen. Gives Daniels and Woods more time to develop.

Trade Cato for Kukoc since the Bucks need low post defense and have an abundence of swingmen. Kukoc's large contract comes off the books in two years.

Let Posey walk and use MLE on a power forward that can play the 4 and the 5 such as a PJ Brown.

    Francis/McInnis
    Anderson/Francis
    Kukoc/Nachbar/Morris
    Brand/Taylor(MLE pickup)
    Yao/Taylor(MLE pickup)

Pretty solid line up there with 3 stars, depth in the backcourt and a veteran in Kukoc who has won championships and is a pass first point forward.

Dickerson doesn't need to "apn out". Everyone knows what he can do, and he did it for 2 good seasons. Only question about HIM is his health.

The Rockets got RID of him because of his DRIVE? Please. Teh Rockets got rid of him because they had to in order to get the best player in the draft.

The Rockets made a choice between him and Mobley. Everyone knows that, the reason they kept Mobley is because they thought he had more heart and upside, and I doubt they would have done things differently.

Deuce, that's accurate. I try not to talk about it. It's too painful to think that it won't happen. :(

Man, that team would really kill everyone.

Can you IMAGINE teh consistent scoring threat of Brand and Yao? How often do these guys have bad games? Do you count how many of their OWN misses these guys catch? How many rebounds we'd HAUL in with those 2? Probably around 17 between the both of them. How abotu Stevie providing the fireworks and RIPPING the defense for the one on one coverage?

How about the media? Steve, Yao and Brand? New Arena? Talk about All Eyes On one Team....

How about Kukoc draining those long 3's, and keeping the ball flowing? Derek Anderson scoring easy buckets off transitions and cuts to the basket? Also handling the ball and getting his 4 assists per game? Allowing Francis to sit and still have THE best asst:TO ratio backcourt in the league?

Bench of MoT, Mcinnis, Boki, T-Mo and possibly an MCE pickup (is that really needed?)

All this and we stay below the luxury tax. TIM, SEND THIS TO SOMEONE! lol.......:D

Sane, the lineup works great in NBA 2K3! That's all the reason I need to pull the trigger on the trades! :D

    What do the Rockets need?.................Time.

The Rox have all the peices and they are now starting to learn how to play together.

Yao will become more and more consistent in the near future.
MoT is finally rounding into shape and is consistent/dependable.
Steve is learning to not take everything on his shoulders (I'd bet his assists have gone up 2 per game since the Allstar)
Cat isn't taking as many dumb shots.
Griff is trying to get better and he likely will do just that next season.
Posey is finding his role on the team. Just needs to shore up his outside J's.
Cato is almost perfect for his role. He's even hitting a few non-dunk shots.

We just need a reliable backup 1/2.

We have the talent. They just need to grow together a little but I see it happening already. Not as quick as I like but I'm sure next season will be much better. This season we basically started from scratch since adding Yao completely changed team chemistry. I hope we don't make any big moves this offseason (unless we can get a huge upgrade using Cato/Cat). :)

Crossfire, I agree with you. I am amazed at all the dreaming going on with this team in the midst of a playoff run. Here it is the team we could play in the 1st round was taken down the wire in their house but people are looking to do things that are months away.

Based on SF play last night, over the past 20 games actually, I am not overly anxious to get a so called pg in. He sped up the game playing at a quickened pace, and had the offense working.

The team is very talented and is highly dangerous. We are still waiting for certain things to happen and have talent on the bench still to be developed. This offseason is one for Nachbar, Ming, Morris and Maddox. Not about Odom.
