As I sat with a crowd of 6,000 in the Senatorial District 13 convention, I couldn't help but think of how incredible it was. All this to get maybe one more delegate for Obama or Hillary. How many total in the city of Houston? What faith people still have in the electoral system. Wouldn't it be great if they could put this type of effort into lobbying Obama or Clinton to do what is needed once they are in office? Instead most of the pressure and influence is done by the I believe tens of thousands of professional lobbyists most from commercial interests, who put money making ahead of the larger public interest to the extent they are in conflict. At our convention I think that unfortunately there was the appearance of unfairness in the way the Obama delegates outvoted the Rules Committee which had rejected the challenges to some of the Obama delegates in roughly 7 precincts, while sustaining the challenges in 3 precincts. The speakers also played almost exclusively to the Obama delegates, who were in about a 70% majority further adding to the appearance of unfairness. I don't think this was helpful to Obama's chances of getting some Hillary supporters to the polls when he is running against MCCain.
