My Thoughts...Humble as They May Be

I've been following the post for some time now and I just had to chime in with my two cents.

I am now a displaced Houstonian (forced by career concerns to move to a city that, until the very recent past, would not have looked down on a Rocket fan). It's hard to come by quality information here as the other, non-Houston sports teams seem to monopolize the news media (a fact that has me constantly consternated). But this board has made me a believer...there is a place that I can go and get what I need!

First, to Doc Rocket, don't let Pine or any of the other flammers get to you. I don't always have the time to follow every thread and read each post, but I do pay close attention to everything that you say (even if you must couch it in such cryptic terms). To be honest, it has been a lot of fun trying to decipher what you are trying to tell us and has been a welcome diversion. Further, as a true Rocket fan, I would rather be in the dark about a potential bloackbuster deal that is coming than jeopardize it by having you or Clutch or anyone else reveal the terms before they are supposed to be revealed. So...keep posting and telling us what you can and I, at least, will keep waiting for your next cryptic bit of information.

Next, as to the Chris Webber situation. By this point, I am sick and tired of hearing about Webber coming to Houston and our efforts to land him. I would just as soon us not sign him and go after some quality role players. Don't get me wrong, I like Webber and think that he could bring a lot to our team, but I am starting to get that "Pippen" feeling. Maybe we would simply be better off without him. I mean, our main concern should be Shaq, and I can't honestly say that he is the solution. Although I've been out of the loop for some time, I honestly don't remember hearing a lot about any of our other big moves before they happened. This leads me to believe that the Webber deal is simply a smokescreen for something else. I have the ultimate faith in Rudy and CD and we will just have to wait and see what they pull out of the bag this year.

As for out picks, I can't honestly say who I would prefer at this point. I don't think we will be going after Gasol (at least I hope not) or Rad. There has simply been too much in the media about these guys. I think we would be much better off trying to move up (which I know we are trying to do) and getting someone like Battier or Griffin. I honestly don't know how realistic that is (does Chicago *really* want Cato?), but I can dream.

As for Hakeem...I love the guy. He has brought us two championships and has proven himself to be a great, great player. I will always remember with fondness they way he schooled Robinson. But if he is serious about his monetary demands, my opinion is that we simply let him go. Don't misunderstand, I would love to see him retire as a Rocket. I would love that the Rockets were the only team he ever played for. But I'll be d****d if he does it at the expense of the team. He more than anyone should know what it means to be a Rocket. He more than anyone should be thankful for the years he has spent here. Houston is a great city to play in. The fans love him, and rightfully so. And he can't say that he hasn't made enough money. Unless he is a Ringo, he should have more than enough to live on. IMO, he shouldn't spend the final years of his career searching for a bigger paycheck, but to demonstrate his loyalty to the team and the fans that have given him theirs. I wish him the best in whatever he decides (I can't, in good conscience argue against trying to get what you are worth. That's the reason I'm not a Houstonian anymore), but I hope and pray that he decides it is better to be here for less than somewhere else for more.

Welcome roxdreamz. I found CC while at school at UF in 97. Been here ever since.

Information in here reminds me of a movie.....The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Its never boring, thats for sure.

Your thought out, punctuated, no capitals, fairly realistic ideas, and at least average writing skills lead me to believe you've been here before. But if not, welcome, its about to get crazy in here.

I love watching Hakeem, but its time to move on. Get Webber, Griffin, and a ring sizer in here.

Great first post...welcome to the only site you'll ever need or want to talk Rox. It's too bad that for every good knowledgable posters like yourself, that we get 3 or 4 newbies that don't make a lick of sense when they post.

    Colby,

What do you mean by "average writing skills"? I know I'm not the best typist in the world, but I would hope that everything I said made sense. No offense, you are one of the few posters that I have come to trust and I thank you for the response.

    DieHard Rocket,

Thank you for the kind words. I can't profess to know the stats of every player as some here do. But I am now, and will always be, a Rocket fan. I hope that that is enough to participate.

Welcome. Good first post (and not just because I fundamentally agree).

It's amazing. Five well constructed paragraphs takes less time to read and make more sense than 8 to 10 run together sentences. Carry on.

I am a little leary at getting Webber sometimes. But either way I think the team will be good. I would like to have a young frontcourt of Marc Jackson, MoTay, and a stud sf. But I would sacrifice that potential lineup to get an MVP type player in a second. Yeah, Im a sore after the Pippen situation too, but remember that getting Clyde, Barkley, and Francis was sweet. I remeber how bad it was when rocket fans had to wait on Shandy to sign. GAH!! I expect this to be 10 times as worse, or 10 times better. [IMG]

BTW, welcome to the board dood. Beware the rabid fans.

Welcome aboard rox dreamz, awesome first post. I agree 100% with you. I would rather re-sign Mo and Anderson (as long Shandon comes cheap), and use the cap room to fill up key positions. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not going to throw a fit if we get Webber, I'll survive [IMG] but I think that we would have a better chance playing with the big boys if we used the cap space and draft picks to improve the SF and center position, and beef up the bench.

I completely agree. Clyde, Charles and Stevie were all wonderful moves. I admit I'm nervous after what happened with Pip, but I have to believe that Rudy and CD know what they are doing. Until proven otherwise, I will assume that the results will be 10 times better than we think.

Actually, though, my point was that these were not common knowledge prior to the deal going down. As I said earlier, I've been out of the loop for some time (it's hard to get Rockets news in Dallas, even when the Cowboys aren't playing), so I may simply have not been aware of the things that were being said in Houston.

I stand by what I said earlier...as much as I hate the waiting, I would rather get a welcome surprise than find out we could have made a great deal if only it hadn't leaked too soon.

Hey, tomorrow's the draft, so we'll be a little more clued in then!
