First do not get me wrong I like Posey I though he was the return of Mario (with out the "deadly " 3 shot. I hate to see a player like that go. But, It look like they just save a dollor or 2and still got 2 decent players instead of 1. and has anyone thought like this. Pike will proberly back up Cat. A-Griff and Boki will proberly back up Rice. then One of them will move into the starting line up when Rice gets hurt. (you know RIce gonna miss atleast 20 games) Now here is my thing If Pike come in and Cat sit when its time for Steve to rest maybe JVG will bring in Cat as the back up PG. He was a starter at PG for his rookie year for those with short turn memery lose. Basicly, for those kids who cannot put 2+2 together, Moochie get ZERO playing time unless there is an injury. PG Steve/ Cat/ Moochie SG Cat/ Pike/ A-Griff SF Rice/ A-griff/ Pike/ Boki/ PF Taylor/ E-Griff/ Hopefully a new Free Agent C Ming/ Cato/ Hopefully a new Free Agent That how I would do it if I was coach. Thats I I am going to do it when I play NBA LIVE and other PS2 and Xbox game. To paraphrase Will Smith and my theme for the Rockets for the next year " We ride together, we die together, 6th seed in the West for 2003"
I like the idea of Moochie getting zero playing time, but having Cuttino as your backup point guard is giving the fox the keys to the henhouse.
Good point... but for 8-10 min a game would you rather give the ball to Cat (the clone of Vernan Maxwell Sam Cassell DNA) or Moochie (the clone of the bad parts of Barkley, Buck Johnson, a smurf, and Andre 3000 from OUTKAST)
Here's why I like the Mobley as back up point guard, and why I think it will work: 1. He played point guard his rookie season, and was our starting point guard the last time we made the playoffs. He knows how to kick the ball into the big man, and we need that exclusively about 20 mpg. 2. Yao will sit for 12-18 mpg, and during that time, we should have STEVE on the floor as PG, running his game. 3. Using Steve 41 mpg and Cat 42 mpg leaves 61 minutes remaining at the 2/3 for Pike, Adrian, and Rice. Giving any one of those guys Moochie's 16 mpg helps us on both ends. Steve 41 min Cat 42 min Pike 22 min Adrian 19 min Rice 20 min is a rotation which works for me. We have a real advantage at point guard, and our shooters in Rice and Pike are solid, if defensively deficient.
Bringing Terrie Brown back may not be that bad of an idea. He can run the floor like a mad man, and he doesn't play with the ball.
I'm hoping you meant Tierre on that one, HotRocket... I think playing Mobley at backup point would be dangerous. It's almost the same rotation that Rudy used, and people have been complaining on this board how we need Cat and SF to rest more, not play 40+ minutes. Mobley playing backup PG would be ok in some games, but let our backcourt rest, only playing about 32-36 mpg. Otherwise, Cat's knees will go on the fritz again and SF will start geting those mysterious headaches...
Playing Cat at point guard.... well i would prefer that and letting steve slide to the two... but cat at point guard may be some what chaotic...
i think gundy said something about putting pike in more for sg and sf so not exactly splitting it with cat, more so dividing it with griffin and rice (when they are off or injured) and boki. so if anyone is going to get dnp, i say its going to be boki more than the mooch. at least we wont see anymore small ball with steve, cat and mooch on the floor ever again, i highly doubt jvg will do that unless drunk.
I think we're going to see a much improved Moochie this coming season, which would eliminate the need for us to OVERWORK Mobley and Francis. If Moochie can provide a solid 12 minutes every night, and just do what he's told, and not think he's part of some world famous backcourt trio, then he'll be great. That leaves 36 minutes at the point for Francis, and he will surely get a few minutes at the 2. I'm hoping Francis and Mobley don't eclipse 40 minutes a game this coming season, until there's a playoff push, and in the actual playoffs.
excess minutes by Steve and Cat would be the only problem in that type of system. but if Mooch is still playing "dribble till the clock is is at 2"ball then this is the only other true option. Beside maybe Moochie being benched will make him straighten his a$$ up. Play like he did to get this nice contract
