OK, this is really geeky, but I jotted down my stats from my most recent Tecmo Superbowl season on my NES emulator. I was playing as the 49ers, going 16-0 and winning the Superbowl... Joe Montana 198 for 379 (52%) 5318 yards 63 TDs 9 INTs 149.6 rating (4th in the NFL...crappy completion percentage brought me down) 41 total rushing yards Total points scored - 565 (77 TDs, 2 FG, 10 safties) Total points allowed - 206 Passing yards allowed - 1427 Rushing yards allowed - 2093 #1 ranked offense and defense Divisional Playoffs: Defeated Chicago 30-7 Conference Championship: Defeated NY Giants 37-35 (Ottis Anderson kicked my ass) Superbowl: Defeated Houston Oilers 49-14 6 TD passes for 409 yards There are some Tecmo Superbowl freaks out there, so they've probably had much better stats than that. Still the best football game ever, though! I think I'll play as the Oilers next and throw nothing but passes all season long...
Tecmo Super Bowl, oh the memories. Is that on NES or SNES. I need to go and buy the system and game. I miss those killer graphics.
DUDE! I freaking *LOVE* Tecmo! It's up there with Jesus and Kool-Aid in my house. I still fire it up a few times a week. I think you can play online through some special emulator. If so, I'm totally down for some Tecmo!
Just keep hitting Drew Hill long on the post route. Guaranteed touchdown every time. Man, I loved that freakin' game! I liked playing as the Raiders with Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen. And of course Montana to Rice was unstoppable. I especially liked when you ran someone over, they would actually fly about 20 yards across the field. Defensive linemen were flying all over the place. Classic!
On one of those teams you could throw the 98 yard bomb against the computer almost each time for a T.D. It was probably Montana to Rice. But I can't remember. Rice would just jump up and grab it. Warren Moon was pretty good too.
What's the highest you scored on that game? I think my highest was 100 something to 0. I use to get 10-15 sacks a game!
I used to play that game with a buddy all the time. It was awesome, and we got hours of entertainment from it before I discovered the blitz-cheat. After that we couldn't run any play that wasn't from shotgun without getting sacked. I could run it up into the triple digits pretty easy on the computer.
I burned a cd with a NES emulator and various hacks of the Tecmo Bow series (an updated version with current players, a version with college players and teams, and the originals) for my Dreamcast. I've been playing it a lot lately. Check out www.famssu.com/tecmo for ROMS of the college version and updated nfl versions. Some of them are great. My favorite is the college hack of TSB for NES. They eben created team specific plays like shovel passes for Oklahoma, and 5 receiver sets for Texas Tech and NC State.
Damn, the highest I scored was 60 something, I think...The clock just runs way too fast. Plus, my run defense was horrible. Plus, my computer teammates are horrible tacklers. They would be going at a running back and dive at him, and the back would change direction and the tackler would miss every time. Plus, they'd be chasing a back and would dive at him from five yards behind and completely miss...It's like playing with 10 Matt Stevenses...
The key to scorring triple figures is to play defense with an awesome DB or fast LB and just pick off passes.
A-Train, we should start a Clutch City Tecmo Super Bowl League. And w/ the hacks that DanHiggsBeard has for the current players, that would rock!
I would like to nominate DanHiggsBeard as the greatest poster in the history of online message boards. Thanks to his link, I have set up the Nesticle emulator on my work PC and our server PC (with 2003-2004 rosters) and am taking all coworkers one in an online challenge. Next step is to set up every work PC with the connection so we can all go head to head. Productivity at my company is about to go downhill. Thanks DHB!
How do you play with emulators? Do you have to own NES or SNES? Do you have to own an original copy of the game? How does it work?
Wow...amazing that you don't know anything about emulators... Emulators are basically the software of an old video game system or arcade machine. NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, Atari...basically any video game system and virtually any arcade game (save the ones that require physical interaction) ever made has been emulated. Playstation and N64 have emulators, but the ROM sizes are so big that you need a server just for ROMs or you can put one ROM on a blank CD. The ROMs are basically the games themselves. Depending on the machine, they range in size from a couple of kilobytes to several hundred megabytes each. Basically, you download an emulator, download a ROM for that particular emulator, follow the installation instructions, and have a blast. Just type in "emulators" or "emulation" into any search engine and you'll get more than enough information. Technically, emulation is illegal since the games are copyrighted and such, but I don't think it's that big of a deal for the older systems (NES, SNES, Genesis), since nobody is making money off those old games anymore except for funcoland...
I have edited the ROM to replace Steve McNair with "drapg" and I have maxed out all of my stastical values. I am the greatest quarterback in history. Oh, and I made Roy Wiliams my wide receiver. First game. drapg passed for 752 yards and rushed for 102 Roy Williams caught 8 passes for 612 yards. I'm in love!
Awesome, ain't it? You just reminded me that I forgot to mention you can also download a tool that allows you to hack the game so that you can make your own changes. ie.e name changes, statistical tweaks, etc. The internet rules.
I remember back in the day playing a Tecmo baseball game, the one where you could make your own players and improve their power by winning, at least I think it was Tecmo.
A-Train, am i to understand you kicked fg's when playing with SF? that is sacrilegious in my circle of Tecmo Super Bowl playing friends. if joe montana is your qb and jerry rice is one of the wr's, you have to go for it on 4th down, no questions asked. the highest i've ever scored is 126, but was preseason vs san diego, and if you've ever played SF vs SD, you know how easy it is. the most i ever scored in a season game was 85-0 vs minny i believe, though my 84-2 victory over the oilers with oakland was probably my most impressive win ever (got safetied on the sweep play from the 1 yd line and the oilers blitzing, it sucked). barry sanders once had 6300 yards for me in 14 games but that season got reset (i was also on pace to average 60 ppg which i had never done) and i've played so many seasons with SF i don't even know what the best ones ever are. 28 points is around my record for fewest points given up in a season (with haley and lott, you can't go wrong on D with SF). man i love that game. for my money, it's still the greatest game ever invented and seems to be the consensus greatest sports game ever (so many people still talk about that game). i think i may go start up a season.
