A couple weeks ago or so, I posted my Top 5 teams. Obviously, with the OU-UT game, a change or two was in place. So without further adieu, here it is. #1- Miami Yes, they eeked out a win today. But, tell me the last NC team to breeze through the regular season. And FSU isn't exactly Vanderbilt or whoever. One thing I was shocked with seeing, is Miami's OL and DL get manhandled. In my last Top 5 post, I praised Miami's OL and DL. Today, I am reluctant to give them too much praise. #2- OU I had them at #3 last time, behind VT, but after beating a good UT team, they elevate over VT. OU's special teams and defense looked very damn good. If Nate Hybl doesn't step on his own weewee 4 times today, OU wins by at least 20. This team goes as far as Hybl will allow them to. #3- VT As I said before, I had VT #2 last time. They drop to #3, but it's not because I think VT isn't as good as they were 2 weeks go, it's just OU playing that well. VT handled BC pretty well, as the score was closer than it really was. VT and OU are carbon copies. Special teams and defense being the bread and butter to go with a vanilla offense. Like OU, VT goes as far as QB Bryan Randall takes them. I have my doubts as to whether or not he can make plays when needed ie. 3rd and 7. He's usually in position to hold a lead, meaning he hands it off, or runs it himself. If VT is in a game where they are down by 10 pts or so, I don't know if they have enough offensive firepower to come back. Obviously, the Miami game in Dec means the difference between the Fiesta Bowl or the Gator Bowl. I won't even waste my time listing a #4 or #5 team, as that would be putting teams like Ohio State, UGA, and ND, all teams that are CLEARLY behind this top 3. Have at it...
Well genius why don't you call the thread your revised top 3 if you won't list #4 and #5. 1. Miami 2. OK 3. Ohio State 4. Va Tech 5. Georgia We'll see who is standing at the end of the year. I still don't see how people can put anyone other than miami in a class of their own, and even Miami dodged a bullett yesterday. You're a Big 12 homer just like I'm a Big 10 homer, so I'll belive you that Big 12 football is really great. Texas Tech really played us well, for the 1st half. I also saw penn State hammer Nebraska. Now UT and OK are clearly better than TT and Nebbraska but I do not put them in a higher class than the Bucks. War Buckeyes!
since the thread starter didn't follow his own thread title, neither shall I. 1. Miami (6-0) 2. Oklahoma (6-0) 3. Virginia Tech (6-0) 4. Ohio State (7-0) 5. Georgia (6-0) 6. Notre Dame (6-0) 7. Oregon (6-0) 8. Michigan (5-1) 9. Texas (5-1) 10. Florida State (5-2)
1. Miami 2. Oklahoma 3. Virginia Tech 4. Georgia 5. Ohio State 6. Texas 7. Notre Dame 8. Michigan 9. Florida State 10. Iowa State
How can anyone put Ohio State above Tech? That team almost got their asses handed to them by very mediocre Bearcats. 1. Miami (not even close to last year's team. and they still might run the table) 2. OU (--for now, I have a feeling they'll lose before Miami-VT) 3. Virginia Tech 4. Georgia 5. Ohio State 6. Oregon 7. Texas 8. Notre Dame 9. Florida State 10. Iowa State
NYK- And Boston College should have beat Va Tech on Thursday night. Boston College is not a good team either. At least OSU had an excuse for not playing well in that we did not have our best player (Clarett) playing.
1. Miami - will echo NYK's comments that Miami is nowhere near as good as last season but they still might run the table. 2. Oklahoma - they just win the big games. Period. 3. Virginia Tech - this team is for real. Kevin Jones and Lee Suggs are a dynamic duo at RB. 4. Ohio State - not having to play Iowa helps them out big time, but I still see them losing to Michigan. 5. Georgia - Mark Richt quickly showing that he is one of the best coaches in the country. However, the Dawgs have too many tough games to be able to run the table with Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, and the SEC Championship (probably LSU) the rest of the top 10: 6. Texas 7. Oregon 8. Notre Dame 9. Florida State 10. Iowa State A lot of things fell out yesterday, but we are still a long way from seeing who is going to play for the NC.
I agree with these three completely -- to me, everyone else is a step down. OU hadn't looked impressive until yesterday, but games like that might be the ones that make a team "click". OU's route of UT in 2000 propelled them to beating #1 and #2 K-State/Nebraska the next two weeks. What really impresses me about VaTech is how they can run effectively without ANY semblence of a passing game. Those two RBs are incredible. Against BC, they ran something like 60 plays and passed maybe 5 or 6 times, and STILL ran for nearly 300 yards. Miami / VaTech will be fun.
1. Miami 2. Oklahoma 3. Virginia Tech 4. Georgia 5. Ohio State 6. Texas 7. Oregon 8. ND 9. Florida State 10. Iowa State I can't believe that I put Georgia that high, but who the hell do I put there? Ohio State is more one-dimensional than any of these top 10 teams, but at 7-0 they have to be up there. I know TX lost, but I still think they're better than ISU, ND, Oregon, OSU, GA, and VaTech. ND STILL hasn't showed much offense, but their defense and special teams have been keeping them in games. I think they'd beat Air Force even though I won't be rooting for them. They are going to be demolished in their bowl game if it's BCS.
Not true. Ohio State's passing game makes Virginia Tech's offense look like something Michigan was running 100 years ago.
True, but I think once Randall gains some confidence he can actually make passes. Did you see the BC game?
hahahaha. Huh? I hate the Big 12 actually. It's funny how you sarcastically call me "genius", while you go out an erroneously call me a Big 12 homer. If anything, I am a Pac-10 homer. You really sound like a bitter OSU fan, because I don't think they are the same class as my top 3. You should be in a great mood, your Buckeyes beat a great San Jose State team, 50-3.
Even better OSU already beat (arguably) the best team in your conference Washington State. Atr least San Jose State was able to slow down Clarett (only 130 yardds). Maybe the Pac 10 can learn something from them.
Oregon is hands down the best team in the Pac-10. If you are saying the Big 10 is better than the Pac-10 you have some serious reality issues to take care of. Now, I have a reason to look forward to the annual OSU-Mich meltdown.
This is the real poll. 1. MIAMI FLA (58) (6-0) 1,522 1 2. OKLAHOMA (3) (6-0) 1,457 3 3. VIRGINIA TECH (6-0) 1,386 4 4. OHIO ST (7-0) 1,320 5 5. GEORGIA (6-0) 1,286 6 6. OREGON (6-0) 1,203 7 7. NOTRE DAME (6-0) 1,164 8 8. TEXAS (5-1) 1,062 2 9. MICHIGAN (5-1) 993 10 10. NO CAROLINA ST (7-0) Sounds pretty fair to me, but I think KSU should be higher and NC State seems too high.
i think its fair, except for NC state... i'd prefer FSU in that spot. NC state's schedule hasn't been to tough this year and they weren't highly ranked in the initial poll. looks like they've jumped to much too soon.
Oh, really? like we should put washington, washington state ahead? I don't really care where we are right now. If we take care of own business, we'll see you in rose bowl.
