If we need more scoring, and Memphis needs to shed contracts to attract buyers, why not make this move. Memphis sends Mike Miller to houston. Houston sends Vassilis Spanoulis, Kirk Snyder, Bob Sura, 2nd round pick 07, prolly the cash to pay off sura's contract as he will never play again which amounts to about 1 million. Why Memphis makes the trade. They get younger, they shed 23 million in owed contracts and get 2 young promising guards in V-span and Snyder. 07 is a deep draft. Sura will never play again and is only on the books for 1 million more. If need be we could add Wells into the deal, obviously memphis wouldn't want him back, but could be a facilitator and the recipient of what he nets in a 3 team trade, ie sending him to chicago for something or other, or another contender looking for a piece. Houston gets one of the best 3 point shooters to pair up with yao and Tmac. won the 6th man award last year, is used to coming off the bench, would eat up alot of head's minutes.Miller is only 26 years old and fits right in with the bunch. Houston and memphis are known for being trade partners.
The problem with that is that I think Memphis isn't exactly into a "rebuilding phase", yet. I think they believe they are just one or two pieces away from being a great team again. Remember, just last year they were a playoff team, and were doing good things. I think for that reason alone, you won't see them making a trade like this, I don't think they have as much pressure to start over just yet, though this season is looking pretty bleak for them at the moment.
I think Memphis would be fine moving Miller but the package you lay out wouldn't interest them. They would be looking for shorter term deals+1st rounder or young prospect. The deal you laid out they would want our 1st round pick.
Yeah, I would love to see us make a move for a solid backup PG to come in behind Rafer, or perhaps another 4. Not sure where either of those would fit in with the current rotation, though- it seems to be pretty solid at the moment.
The Rockets chemistry is good now. It would be interesting to see if they would tinker with it. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make a small move to pick up either a backup PG or a backup 4/5. Maybe Chucky Atkins (3M expiring) or Scot Pollard (2.2M expiring) would be something we could do. That way we can add a player (for insurance purposes) at a low cost without damaging the chemistry this team has found.
Is Miller making over 10mil a year? A little too much for us, and I dont think he is worth that much.
Memphis isn't trading Mike Miller. They're in rebuilding mode, but they're going to build AROUND Miller, Rudy Gay and their #1 pick this year. Come on, guys. We can come up with much more realistic trade ideas than this.
Getting younger and cheaper, and lower in the standings on this deep draft, along with top half draft picks in this draft ... THAT they would do. But, getting stupid, I doubt. They aren't in fire sale mode, as long as West is there to protect his legacy. The offer to Portland illustrates exactly how they are thinking. They don't mind giving up a piece like Gasol, to get a top talent that needs to develop, as well as reduce salary, so they can sell the team. So, giving up Gasol for Aldridge, Magloire and Rodriguez achieves that, adding in 2 young talents at key positions, especially Center, and unloading a huge salary with Magliore. So, if you want to make a trade with Memphis, you'll have to come up with something that fits with what they want. For instance, if we sent them Sura, Snyder and Head, they MIGHT do the deal, but probably only if we threw in our 2007 #1 draft pick. Otherwise, I don't see them wanting anything else we've got besides our big 3. I think they could do better than that somewhere else, so I seriously doubt there is an option here. Right now, I don't think that Snyder or VSpan have much trading value at the moment. The only ones people might consider besides the big 3 are Head, Hayes, Howard, Deke, Bonzi and maybe Alston, in a market near where he grew up as a playground legend. Actually, I think that could be our best bets for trades of our players. Head and Howard are heros in their home town of Chicago, Alston is a hero in the NYC area, Novak in Milwaukee. Those teams would get marketing value for obtaining them. But, the chemistry is so good on our team right now, I doubt the Rockets will want to screw that up. I would assume we'll do something with Sura or an exemption, our TE, and maybe Head, Howard and/or Bonzi. As well as Howard has been playing, his value would be at an all-time high at the trading deadline. Once Yao get's back, I expect his value will drop again. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets moved. If anyone steps up for Bonzi, where we can get a key piece that extends beyond this season, I'm sure the Rockets would respond. As much as I like Head, he would fit so much better on a team that didn't have the half-court game we do, and it's possible he'd actually do better somewhere else, and someone would do better here, making a swap mutually beneficial. So, something like a Head for Duhon trade could be advantageous for both teams. Of course, if you listen to Morey, CD and JVG, they are just looking for frontcourt help. But, one wonders if they are showcasing Alston, Howard and now Bonzi ...
i don't tihnk miller is on the block just yet. maybe after they move gasol. right now i tihnk we could work out a deal where we take either atkins or stoudamire for the TE and then send them billy for tsakalidis. i'm sure they would love to get out of stoudamire's contract which still has a few years left. they would also like to pick up a TE for atkins expiring deal. a TE would last a year, an expiring deal loses all value after the deadline.
Isn't Mike Miller at the same time one of T-Mac's and Battier's best friends? Miller is a great shooter and pretty good ballhandler. I'd do that trade in a split second.
Are people forgetting that Miller plays the same position(s) as T-Mac and Battier? Unless Battier can play MOST of his minutes at PF (something that looks highly unlikely), there would not be enough minutes for Miller. I'll stick with Bonzi as the third guy in the SF rotation.
Miller is like the only guy on Memphis at the moment that is consistently scoring 20+ anymore. No way memphis gives him away for a bunch of crap and a pick. His stock has gone way up and West is not that stupid.
Hehehe I don't know man.. If the entire city of Memphis wasn't already in riot mode after losing their favorite son Battier, they might have to leave town entirely if they trade Miller to us too. That guy is a superstar waiting to happen. All he needs is a decent team around him. No way they let him get away. Now don't get me wrong - I would love to have the guy on the team (even though he is uglier than the south end of a north-bound horse, and he wears a girl's headband when he plays), but there ain't no way we get that guy, unless West suddenly overnight turns into a combination of weisbrod and casserly. Casserbrod. Or Weisserly. Not too likely in either case.
If we could miller for players that aren't playing, you do the deal. You can never have enough depth and Bonzi might not be here next year.
