With the talk about the Rockets trying to buy there way into the first round my first thought is, “how high of a draft pick could we really buy?” The obvious names or Rick Rubio, Brandon Jennings or Stephen Curry just don’t seem possible. I believe Daryl Morey mentioned that buying into the first round would certainly not come in the early part of the round so what is possible?

After much thought I believe Terrence Williams should be our target. He is not a great shooter or finisher and does not seem to look for his shot enough which is why he could last beyond the 20th pick. Houston might be able to buy their way into a pick in that position. But what he does well might just make him an ideal fit in Houston.

    1. Lock down defender
    2. Great at stealing the ball
    3. Freakish Athleticism
    4. Great Court Vision
    5. Great Distributer and passer
    6. Seldom Turns the ball over
    7. Perfect Height for a 2 guard
    8. Excellent rebounder

If Aaron Brooks is going to continue to be our starting 1 guard, then we really need someone to come in that can distribute the ball and facilitate the offense. Terrence Williams may be the perfect fit next to Brooks. Plus Williams gives us one more elite defender that we can throw at guys like Lebron James, Brandon Roy and Kobe Bryant. Williams could make the loss of Ron Artest or Shane Battier a lot more digestible in a couple of years.

In short Terrance Williams is the perfect back court mate for Aaron Brooks.

I agree, he is a real sleeper and the team that picks him will be very pleased to have his services in the future. I hope Morey can trade up high enough to snag him.

i just saw some highlights of him on youtube (because i hadn't heard of him til now) and i think he would truly be a good pick if we could get a pick in the 20s where he is expected. he's like a better james white haha

    WEAKNESSES:
    - Ability to get to free throw line
    - Ability to play at different speeds
    - Efficiency
    - Lacks significant offensive polish
    - Out of control at times
    - Settles for bad shots
    - Ability to create own shot
    - Struggles to create with off hand
    - Basketball IQ?
    - Questionable intangibles
    - Ability to shoot off the dribble
    - Free throw shooting
    - Pull-up jumper

He doesn't seem like a good fit with Yao based on this list of weaknesses but he does have a lot of nice attributes if we are thinking mostly about the post-Yao era.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about the guy. I saw him play once on ESPN.

We are not talking a lottery pick here. You are going to find many of those same weaknesses on any player that is picked outside or even with in the lottery. The fact that the guy is a great passer and does not turn the ball over is enough to make me like him next to Aaron Brooks. The fact that he could come into the league as an elite defender is enough for me to want him with a late or mid round pick.

Good points. I also think we need to start acquiring young talent regardless of what fits best with Yao.

    Sounds like a Trevor Ariza.

But then again, if Kyle Lowry improves his 3 pt shot over the fall he might push Aaron Brooks to the Jason Terry role. So we may very well go in the established scorer-at-swingman direction.

Hmmmm excuse me sir but do you watch college ball??? I ask because if you do you would know for a fact that He played SF for Rick Patino.

Lock Down Defender???? hahahaha how would you know. This is why I asked do you watch college basketball because everyone knows in their right mind that Louisville play 2-3 zone.

Don't take this the wrong way but the way you described him was hilarious

Odds are he'll be a bust, at the very least he'll be a multi-year project. Morey will more than likely bring in a vet that can hit the ground running to replace TMac rather than rely on a rookie that will take years to develop.

The Nets are rumored to be enamored with him and are thinking strongly about taking him at #11 overall. The Bulls are apparently offering the #16 and #26 picks to New Jersey for the #11 pick. If the Nets do that deal, they are not optimistic that Terrence Williams will even still be available at #16.

While I agree that Williams would be a very strong addition, his draft stock has apparently shot up to the point where a mid- to late first rounder will not be a high enough pick to get him.

    We need either
    a) Back up Center-V tall young strong athletic- blocks & rebounds.
    b) True tall strong shooting guard who can also play defence.
    (Possibly McGrady)
    c) True Playmaker Point Guard - Draft or trade :p

the guy we need is Chase Budinger....
athleticism that we have been lacking, great potential, and is more likely to be there in the late 20s...

    http://www.nbadraft.net/players/chase-budinger

    NBA Comparison: Glen Rice/Brent Barry
Strengths: Budinger is a versatile and athletic guard with upside left in his game ... With his size (6-7), and ability to score in many different ways, there are not many players that can fully contain him (18.0 PPG) ... He is a match up problem due to his size, athleticism and basketball IQ ... Has great leaping ability and can finish strong inside the paint with authority ... With his 40 inch vertical, he easily converts ally-ops and highlight dunks are common for him ... Runs well in transition giving great effort at all times, and it results in some easy transition baskets for him ... On the perimeter, he is a mismatch as he takes advantage of smaller defenders by shooting over them with good lift ... Also uses his size to or post smaller opponents up on the block ... Possesses a great motor, consistently working to get open and showing good ability without the ball ... Cuts to the basket hard, moving through screens well to get open for jump-shots ... Has developed his ability to score in iso situations ... If he is given too much space offensively, he will make the defense pay (excellent spot-up shooter coming off screens and getting his feet set) ... His shooting mechanics are perfect (has high and quick release as well as a fluid form) and his range goes well behind the 3pt line ... Has made some improvements in his game since last year both offensively and defensively ... Budinger is an extremely unselfish player who possesses very good court vision and passing ability (3.4 APG)... A solid rebounder at 6.2 RPG ... A good teammate, well liked off the court by teammates and plays for the team not for individual accolades ...

I think we will probably get our back up center towards the trade deadline mainly because i really dont think we will spend a 1st rounder on a center

Terrence williams has good height for a SG at 6'6 and is a great defender and also a great playmaker. he can hit the 3 which is good on this team because of the double and tripple teams Yao draws. I can see him having the same kind of impact Cortney Lee had for the magic.

Aaron will get better at play making he just needs to get more comfortable at being the starter and he has shown some of that throughout the playoffs. He will have a good season this year and i expect his numbers to go up. Confidence can go a long way for a player.

luther head played SF in college. Doesn't mean anything. TWill makes a lot of sense if we can't do anything else. good size great athleticism. And the best part.......he's got some bball intelligence.

We dont need a big scorer. He's not supposed to be a superstar right away. On this team he's going to be a role player unless he develops into what i hope can possibly be a player like andre igoudala. Hes a great defender definetly a great rebounder at SG position with 8.8 rpg and a great passer but most of all it looks like he wants to be a great player and hard work pays off.
