I know I'm likely the only one on the board that like the BCS due to the fact I think it makes every game more interesting (I follow Hokies and Trojan games all the time too now). You can't have a major let down, but I must agree that if they're 3 - 4 unbeaten team, I think there's going to be a need for playoffs, but how will do this yet still make sure you want every game to count? I think you should skew the favor to the 1 and 2 seeds as much as possible. I think it should take the 8 would be invitees to BCS, then give them byes based on BCS ranking. the 7 and 8 will have to 5 and 6 team, then the winner will play the 3 and 4, then the winner will have to play the 1 and 2. So the top 2 teams gets basically 2 byes, so if you're not in the top 4, it will be hard for you to make the championship game (have to win 3 games against the top 8 teams to just make it to the Nat'l Championship, will be fatigued as heck, but hey, should've had a better regular season ) but at the same time puts to rest a lot of the controversy.
Every conference needs a title game. Take the top 4 ranked teams that also won their conference. Have them match up in two of the BCS bowls and the winner plays in the third BCS bowl. The fourth BCS bowl takes the top two ranked teams remaining. Every game still counts.
It seems to me, every year it is pretty obvious who should be in a playoff and who should not be. Why do you need a system when common sense can prevail. If there are two deserving teams send them into the championship. If there are three send 4. If there 7 send 8. You can have a flexible system and get away with it. Common sense would probably mean less controversy. So I like the idea of Selection Committee setting up the playoffs.
selection committee similar to NCAA basketball. four or eight team would be fine for a start. i'm sure it would evolve eventually to a larger format just like the NCAA Tournament did.
also, since they tweak that piece of crap (BCS) every year, expect this to be involved soon: http://www.mcspoll.com/index.htm it should help...
I just don't like the idea of having an undefeated team going in only to lose to a fluke. I want the regular season count as much as it does right now. I want to have to have to root against Hokies and Alabama all the way through the season and just not the last 2 games if the playoffs are borderlined. I wanted so that if you're not going into the post season as one of the top 2 teams, you need to be penalized, badly.
