Bo staves. Most underrated weapon ever. Been playing a lot of games (mostly RPG's) and i'm liking this weapon more and more each game. Characters I have played with Bo staves: Balthier in FFXII, main character in Dragon Quest IX. I also now like cartoon/anime characters like Aang, Donatello. and I'm really looking forward to Diablo III, with the Monk that specializes in the Bo staff. Now my question here is: Do you guys know any other anime/cartoon characters that uses the bo staff? or games with characters that specialize in the bo staff? or upcoming games like ffxii/ dragon quest ix where you pump up your skills in the bo staff. thanks mucho. p.s. i really wish i wasn't 22. i think i'm too old to enroll in a kung fu class that teaches how to wield a bo staff.
bo staves takes more skill and are weapons of peace--they inflict pain and pain only giving the opponent a chance to surrender and change his ways. plus you can combine martial arts with bo staves. warhammers are too heavy, by the time you strike you've been hit by a bo staff 10 times/ or tripped and fallen with the strike of a bo staff to your legs.
You certainly CAN specialize in the staff in Jade Empire, an X-Box era RPG also available on PC. I disagree with your premise though. The spear is the most underrated weapon in popular culture. There is a reason that some version of the spear has been used by man from the stone age to the modern era.
Sweet! I'm gonna check that out.. The difference between spears and bo staves is that its much more easier to have a bo staff in your house than a spear.. and there are more teachers nowadays for the bo staff. oh and more youtube clips for the bo staves.
I have a lot of experience using a staff from studying Aikido. A lot of the movements in the martial art are based off using a staff or sword. If you're interested in learning it I highly suggest it. As for the person who said a staff inflicts pain only; you're half right. It is a weapon of peace and it isn't meant for killing, but if you hit the right spot it certainly will. The amount of force generated by a staff is definitely enough to fracture bone.
