Tired of late games? I know I don't like them. We have 30 NBA teams, so why not make 3 Conferences? Western, Central, and Eastern, 10 teams each, with North and South Divisions. We would have more games played in our time zone and I would guess it would increase overall game viewing. How would playoffs work? Well, my idea is a mix of NBA and NCAA formats. Let the best teams win, regardless of conferences. It starts with Conference Championships. The two Division winners from each conference play a best of 7 series to determine the Conference Championship. Then the Playoffs begin, with the Conference Champs and top overall seeded Division winner sitting out the first round (Wildcard Round). See attached Chart for Conference and Playoff format:
I think the NBA should do away with conferences and divisions. It’s an outdated concept when the league still traveled by bus and flew commercial to get to games. Also, they provide an unfair advantage to teams in a weak conference. You want the best teams in the playoffs and not teams that barely made it in due to playing in a weaker conference. It would be awesome if you could have a Rockets/Mavs or Rockets/Spurs finals.
I'm for that too. My idea was just a stepping stone, where you can still have Division and Conference Champions. I just think West and East is stupid, when there are many teams more central. The biggest change is playoffs, where the best two teams can reach the finals, and not just best of each conference. With my concept you could still have a Rockets/Mavs or Rockets/Spurs Finals.
lets add relegation to the g-league for the worst team. the team that gets promoted gets the #1 draft pick. the rest of the teams get really low lottery odds for the remaining picks. i just solved the tanking problem. the NBA can add as many franchises they want (Seattle, Las Vegas, Vancouver) but they all start in the G-league.
Maybe the bottom 14 or 15 teams should all just get equal chance at draft picks. Just take the worst teams and give them all the same shot at drawing for the top 14 or 15 picks. That way, tanking wouldn't be as beneficial.
Here's my proposed Conferences and Divisions Eastern Conference North Boston Celtics Brooklyn Nets New York Knicks Philadelphia 76ers Toronto Raptors South Atlanta Hawks Charlotte Hornets Miami Heat Orlando Magic Washington Wizards Central Conference North Chicago Bulls Cleveland Cavaliers Detroit Pistons Milwaukee Bucks Minnesota Timberwolves South Indiana Pacers Dallas Mavericks Houston Rockets Memphis Grizzlies New Orleans Pelicans Western Conference North Portland Trail Blazers Utah Jazz Denver Nuggets Golden State Warriors Oklahoma City Thunder South Phoenix Suns Sacramento Kings San Antonio Spurs Los Angeles Lakers LA Clippers
West and East in old school. It makes no sense. The playoffs also often don't allow the 2 best teams in the the NBA to compete in the Finals. I like a mix of NCAA type playoffs.
It would make one Conference with 1 less team unless they added 3 expansion teams. Slide 'em to the West and move OKC and San Antonio Central, and shift one team from Central to East.
...if you want to watch the game live, stay up late. If you don't then turn off score notifications and watch them the next day after recording them or getting league pass or something. Either that or lobby the commissioner to ask you daily what games YOU want to see and 'what time' so they can plan the league around your personal schedule.
The teams in the conference playoff series have a disadvantage of an extra series? Central Conference sounds weird, I'm out. Where did you find this idea?
