I just found out that my mother has luekemia, she is undergoing chemo therapy right now. According to the Doctor's prognosis for recovery is relatively high. The say they can whipe out most cases with only a week of chemo and then some pills. Is this true? Has anyone here had some practical experience with this disease? Also, due to the strain of the situation, my step dad, has also gone into the hospital as he collapsed, and is getting an angioplasty today, if that does not work it is open heart surgery for him. This has not been a good week....... DaDakota
Sounds like the doctors caught It early....., Everything’s going to be alright. My prayers are with you and your family. Samurai Jack
Good luck. My 45 year old sister got cancer which metasticized to her lungs. Just diagnosed 5 weeks ago. She is undergoing chemo and after 4 weeks it is almost eliminated with chemo. Hasn't even missed that much work, if you can believe it. Wears a wig now. This reminds me to call her and see what her "counts" are this week. What a roller coaster. The cure rate is very good with some cancers. If you're in Houston go to MD Anerson or get a consult there to at least check on her other doctors. I've had two close relatives have mistakes made at other centers in Austin and Houston by MD Anderson. YOu absolutely need input from the best in these cases.
Sorry to hear about the tragedies which have stricken your family, Mr. DaDakota . Best wishes for both parents' recoveries. I've only know one person who had Leukemia and it was a fellow classmate of mine in the 5th grade. Her name...which I will never forget...was Meredith Hughes. She did not make it . I didn't know her that well and she was sort of shy. It was a bad experience for our 5th grade class, though, as we were expecting her to be okay and be back. We did some special things for her to cheer her up like make her a big card. We were kind of numb when the news came over the intercom of our school at the time. I always felt bad about it...she never had a chance. That was well over 20 years ago and from listening to the prognosis for recovery nowadays....it appears they have made great strides in those 20 years. But, I think having Leukemia at such a young age may be more devastating on the body as well. I hope everything works out well for you and your family. You are in my thoughts. Surf
I have a cousin that had luekemia when he was a kid - about 10yrs ago. He recovered quite well and is normal now. Your mom will be ok. Best Wishes.
