Dont mean to veer away from game 7 but i was listing to the radio and came up with this...Wouldnt it be great if we were able to swing a deal or sign one of these players in the offseason? ODOM, JOSH HOWARD (free agent after next season) RASHARD LEWIS (opt out year), RICHARD JEFFERSON. Just wishful thinking here...but i believe one of these players is the missing link...which one do you think would best fit our system?
Their free agent status is irrelevant. The only thing we can do is trade or MLE (which none of them will take).
Yeah thats why i said wishful thinking....hypothetically speaking meaning "if" i would personally take any of them but me like josh howard
People, please be realistic. We don't really need stars, we need good role players. 4 is our weakest spot, next is 1, after that backup 2. People like Barnes, Steve Blake, Mikki Moore have been roaming around in the league for many years, could have been had easily. I am not saying they are starter quality, but they would have made decent backups, unlike what we have on the bench.
I wish to state that we don't just need role players. We need Role Players who can perform almost like stars when called upon to do so. Many keep saying we need a third scorer--WE DONT!! WE NEED A THIRD FOURTH AND FIFTH SCORER!! MARK MY WORDS! PS. AND A PLAYMAKER Point Guard.
Ok here's my wishlist: 1) Trade Rafer + 2nd rounder for JKidd--> farfetched but possible if Nets lose next round and breakup the team 2) Trade Juwan, Dikembe + 1st round pick for Odom--> even more farfetched, but Lakers want veterans Our new high powered lineup: PG JKidd/Vspan/JL3 SG TMac/Head SF Battier/Novak PF Odom/Hayes C Yao/Jake Now THAT is a championship team!
sign rashard lewis and trade T-mac for decent PG and PF. wont happen and id be bummed because i like T-mac but it would make the team as a whole stronger, especially since you dont have to worry about t-macs injuries.
If we win the championship this year, are we still missing a piece? Did you have to mention Richard Jefferson? Sigh... many painful thoughts come to mind.
Mehh. Sign a backup PG with the MLE, draft a PF prospect. Make sure V-Span and Novak develop this summer. That's all we need.
Of course I'd love to get a Kevin Garnett or a Jermaine O'neal, but we already have enough stars. We need more depth and better role players to help out Mac-N-Ming. They also need to be able to fit in our schemes. I'm thinking James Posey, Jamaal Magloire, and Chucky Atkins. I'd love to get Franchise back, but NY has to buy out his contract first right?
Matt Barnes and Matt Carroll [/Broken Record] Barnes has proven this year he can score from pretty much anywhere on the court (check out his stats when Richardson was down) and is aggressive on defense. Basically, he's like a Shane Battier with offensive game...or even a poor man's Shawn Marion (the guy gets a good amount of steals and blocks every game for his size/height) Carroll can stroke it from deep and I see him as a (better) replacement for Howard. Granted, Howard is not going anywhere with that contract but his game is nothing like it was even 2 years ago. Novak could be our Carroll but, without development and playing time, it could be hard. The only problem is that we don't currently have any opening starting spot and for these guys to even leave their team, a starter spot is a must.
Why would Barnes & Carroll move to a team for less money and less playing time? Even if Houston matches salary offers they're not guaranteed playing time. At least with the current team they've established themselves and can be part of something rather than hope to get off the bench. More realistic targets for Houston are players who want to get playing time they're not currently getting.
i heard jerry stackhouse could be available this offseason as a free agent.....he wouldnt be a bad pickup for a 6th man.
I mean if you want to just stop at that first line of course you're not going to see that I make basically the same statement you made but only in one solitary sentence. And, yes, I do believe Barnes and Carroll are actual, you-can-touch-them, realistic targets. I'd like to live in the world where we can turn a VSpan into a Jason Kidd or a Juwan Howard plus Bob Sura's expiring contract plus draft picks would get Kevin Garnett into a Rockets uniform but that world doesn't exist. At least with Barnes or Carroll, they aren't going to break the bank with us or any team they sign with because anything more than 7-8 million a year for either of them is ridiculous.
