Ok...this is the first time i get to see him play and see him move and behave on the court. I thought everything he does look just like Wang Zhi Zhi from Dallas. The way he runs, the way he pick and roll, the way his body move look somewhat like Wang 'cept he's taller, that's all. I came away semi-impress. What i see that i like is his defensive awareness and his presence in the paint. Just as someone is driving to the basket, he is well aware to go over and try to block it or alter the move (I really like this attritube). His speed and quickness is good compare to CENTER position stardard, but i wasn't wow by his speed though. He has nice shooting touches and this will probably be his primary offensive skill in his first NBA year since he hasn't developed the upper body strength to bang or the knowledge to bang inside. I was impressed with his constant awareness of boxing out and try to get a rebound when the opponent take a shot. People say he didn't box out are wrong. He boxed out his man almost all the time, the ball just didn't bounce his way. He needs to post up more inside. I think the Chinese team emphasize team offense (Sacramento style) instead of the Knicks' style where you pass the ball to your big man inside almost all the time. So from what i seen, i can't really judge how good he is inside cuz the Chinese team never go inside much. I think he needs to be tougher. Maybe Frances and Mobley can teach him in this area. It's hard to judge his performance since he is surrounded by weak players. Now if you put him in the Rockets' team, he could blosom into an NBA star. If you're surrounded by weak players, your performance is going to dip no matter what, just look at Michael Jordan with the Wizards last year. If Rudy T can teach him the inside game and give him as much NBA knowledge, he's going to do fine. I really think he only need NBA knowlege and experience. Of course he needs a stronger body, but most rookie that came into the league tend to be slender and aren't as strong in their first year and develope a stronger body later on. For example, look at Hedo from Sacramento and Peja, i remember when they came into the league, they're too soft and skinny and now they have a stronger bodies. So don't expect this thing to happen over night. WIth a stronger body and a year of NBA knowledge behind him, i think that's when he can start to dominate inside.

    Thoughtful first post, but...

If you add paragraphs and a bit of formating it'll make your post much easier to read. When I first saw this giant block of words pop up, my first instinct was to click 'back' ASAP.

After reading your post, the impression remains. Your post has much more thoughtful and articulated positions than 99% of the first posts around here, but it sort of rambles on quite a bit.

I'd suggest going back after your initial stream of conciousness type exposition, that you go back and try to add structure when the post is this detailed.

    Anyway,

Though I don't exactly agree with everything you've written, I do appreciate that these are objective views expressed by someone who was honestly trying to analyze Ming's game. I hope you bring more of the same.

Snide remarks will not be tolerated. Please see me after class.
    :p

I was simply trying to provide an honest and encouraging reply for this new poster who, to that point, had been ignored.

His shot is so sweet, I saw the whole game, I just wish the China National team, would milk Ming somemore. He needs to be the focal point of the offense, let me throw in I was impressed with that guy that played for Denver, he had range on his shot!

bateer is worth giving the ball to, but ming needs to be the first option everytime down. like shaq is, in the NBA.

china seems to have good 3 point shooters. even their centers can hit the 3 with ease. they also have very good post players in yao and bateer. why not use the '94-5 rocket style offence? draw a double team, then kick it out for a 3.

yao's stats wouldve looked a lot better, and the team wouldve won more games.

now, don't get me started on how poorly the chinease guards played...how hard is it to get the ball to a guy thats 7'5 posting up with his hand raised to 9' caling for the ball!?!?!?!

throw a L-O-B! no more bounce passes to yao!

I can't believe you would care about analyzing someone's text. This is not an English class so i don't give a damm, i just type what's in my head. It's just funny you make a big deal about it.

I don't want to continue this argument, but ottoman is just pointing out what many others do. If you want people to read your post then you should make it easy on the reader.

When I first clicked on the post all I saw was a bunch of words with no organization...my first thought was..."oh a 13 year old newbie whose going on a rant" Its not that he's being a anal retentive english putz...he's just trying to give you some advice on being a better post presenter, so more people will read it.

If you don't care about people reading it then why type it?

Geez, i don't care if people read my post or not really. If you don't want to read it, then DON'T, nobody is going to make you read it. If you don't like it, DON'T READ, and go away....stop criticizing people! I have post many posts on many different forums and nobody point this out until i got here. I mean if you want to read with better sentence structures or paragraph alignment, then go read some essays in an English class or something.

Not once did Ottomaton criticize you; in fact, he complimented you several times on your post's content. He merely pointed out some helpful ways in which you might better express yourself, and was right to do so. Like it or not, in a text environment like a BBS, proper grammar and formatting are key in getting your point across. A single big block of text is very hard to read and reflects poorly on its author.

As for not caring whether or not people read your posts, then why bother to post here at all? If you really feel that way, then just type it up in MS Word or something and leave it at that.

Truth be told, I didn't read the original post either for the paragraphing reasons, I just figured someone would quote the good parts in the replies...

And don't say you don't care if anyone reads it, the reason you post things on a message board is so people will read them! If you just like seeing yourself type out things, open up notepad and have at it.

Why is this the one bbs that is so staunch when it comes to grammar and placing threads in the wrong forum?

Does this boost the confidence of some of you, who feel the need to act like a-holes to posters who (gasp) make mistakes?

I'm not saying Ottamaton was being an a-hole, because he wasn't. But 50% of the time people who bother to go out of their way to point out mistakes annoy the hell out of me.

No, it just makes for a better, more readable environment for everyone.

    Why are you so offended?

I guess this BBS has a desire to see everyone write good well-formatted posts? Is that bad?
