Over the weekend, my estranged girlfriend called me and told me she was pregant with my baby. We were living together for awhile but that wasn't working out for me, but still have sex together every so often. Anyway, I'm not sure what my level of involvement will be, because I like to see her every so often, but if I see her everyday, I go completely crazy. She just makes me crazy for some reason. Anyway, I don't have any kids yet, and she definitely wants to have the baby. I'm okay with that, it's just that our relationship is so questionable, I don't know whether to be excited about it and assume my fatherly role in the situation, or change my identity and move to Costa Rica. I hear it's nice there. I waver back and forth. Is this normal to feel this way? I've only known about this since Saturday, so its still pretty new to me. I've been so distracted, I still haven't seen a doctor for my lingering intestinal problems.

At the risk of being crass, maybe a paternity test is in order? Which poster was it that had the child-support-predicament-from-hell? If it is yours, congratulations. Sorry it couldn't be in more ideal circumstances.

Make sure it is yours first. Don't assume. And if it is, you really don't have much choice, that's your child. You could pay child support and leave it at that. That's all you are responsible for I think. But after child support its up to you how much you want to be involved in it's life.

A lot of times, with a kid, you start out giving a lot of your time, but then slowly you ween yourself away. And to behonest, the kid and mother will probably want to see less of you as time goes on.

I hope that intestinal problem isn't genetic.

Being a father is the best thing in the world.

Of course it helps if you are happily married.

I'd suggest helping out in everyway possible. Upon birth request a dna test. Then accept your responsibility as a man.

    Then vacation in costa rica.

Make no mistake about it... being a good parent is a lot of work and I'm sure it is easier if there are 2 people doing the parenting together (not working against each other).

Kids can make a bad relationship worse or a strong relationship better.

I took my 2.5 year old son and 4.5 year old daughter to the rockets game alone last night to give my wife a break.

Good luck. Think of the kid, not yourself.

    Paternity test

If it's not yours, go downtown and party.

If it is yours, kiss your ass goodbye.

Try wrapping it next time, or start smoking a half ounce of weed per week to keep your sperm count in negative numbers.
