So yesterday I went into Gamestop to look for Metal Gear Solid: Subsistence. after browsing the shelves for about 5 minutes, i couldn't find a copy. the manager walks up and ask, "need any help?" i tell her what i was looking for and she says she doesn't have a copy, that it's been discontinued. i was kind of shocked as it's a pretty popular game. then, 2 minutes after that conversation, i **** you not, someone walks in and wants to trade in a copy of Subsistence AND Snake Eater in great condition. it was like the perfect storm, or whatever. anyhow, i thought to myself sweet. the manager begins to scan the games to see how much credit the guy should receive. so i ask her, "how much are you selling the game for?" she says $24.99. then she asks the guy for ID. he didn't have one. so she couldn't give him credits for the trade in. so i saw my opportunity. i asked him, "do you know how much they are giving you for that game?" and with sort of an antagonizing voice, the manager blurts out, "You can't do any deals here!" so i tell the guy i'll give him $15 for it. she continued with, "Take it outside!" so we take it outside, and i told him i'll be back in 5 minutes with the cash. i come back and he tells me she was really pissed off that i'm going to buy it from him and not the store. then he said, "f*ck her, she didn't want to give me credit w/o my ID" Damn right!
Pretty sweet. One time I walked into Gamestop and bought Crimson Skies for Xbox for 5 bucks. I open it up to not only find the game but an unused 12month subscription to Live. Was very happy.
I remember buying a Playstation one game YEARS ago, brand new and still all sealed up. Halfback home I opened the case to read the instructions and there was no CD in the bloody thing! Lucky it wasn't a hassle and they believed what had happened.
Dude, Gamestop is the worst store on the planet. Try to find a Gamecrazy. Their selection may not be as wide, but their prices are almost always lower, they give you more credit on trade-ins, and they don't put fifty ****ing stickers on the boxes that you have to use goo-gone to remove... Oh, and when you buy a game new from them it's still actually shrink-wrapped. What a concept!
This was prompted by a story about Gamestop shipping all their copies of a new release (Puzzle Quest - getting great reviews) back to the publisher after it had been out for 5 days. FIVE DAYS. Basically, Gamestop just wants to sell preorders and used games. Selling a used game is mad $$$ for them, and totally cuts the publisher out of the picture.
