    I don't understand the kid's parents.

And why do all these kid's have a similar profile? Chemistry books in their room, Nazi worship, diaries of their plans and how they hate the world, etc.

    Nomenclature.

"Assault rifles" are banned except as registered under the NFA. Assault rifle is a word created during WWII and is a translation of Sturmgewehr, which is German. The Germans loved to name things sturm-[thing] if they wanted it to seem really mean - Sturmgewehr, Sturmtruppen, StUG, Sturmtiger and so on and so forth. Directly translated it would be storm rifles, which sounds kind of silly in English so they changed it. An assault rifle is a gun which can selectively switch between automatic or burst fire and semiauto fire using full sized rifle projectiles. This is a very specific definition.

"Assault weapons" is sort of a catch all category that someone invented for the Brady Bill in the early 90's. It is guns with large capacity magazines, flash protectors, and other stuff. But there are some specific guns which are defined as "assault weapons" that do not meet the defined criteria. I've seen them described as 'scary black guns' because it basically covers all guns that look mean. The Brady Bill had a sunsetting clause and the bill expired in 2004.

Therefore assault weapons are legal since the specific provisions of the Brady Bill expired. Assault rifles mostly aren't.

Ok, this screams total lack of parenting.
She actually bought him a rifle???
How often did she go into this room? Where was he hiding all these weapons?
Damn, I grew up in the hood and this is just ridiculous.
Please tell me that the mother is blind and possibly mentally challenged.

I think i had three or four shooting incidents in my old school.

What's more messed up is that I was home schooled.

Did you see the Mom? She's overweight, not very mobile, and has to use a walker. In a way, I kind of feel sorry for her as she's charged with 6 counts and will likely do jail time.

I've seen Moms like this before with kids I hung out with growing up. The parental supervision was totally lacking in those cases and the kids made lousy human beings as a result. Also, from my experience, the houses they called "home" were roach-infested, dirty, and not maintained. They tend to order a lot of pizzas. For example, they ordered pizza for Thanksgiving dinner. That would have been a shocker had I not seen the inside of their home. LOL.
