According to the "New York Post", Candiria have been awarded the sum of $29 million dollars in a New York court this week. Here's the unedited piece from the aforementioned publication: "Five members of a Brooklyn-based rock band won a $29 million verdict yesterday for injuries they suffered when a truck hit their tour van. The members of Candiria were hurt as they traveled to a gig in Cleveland on Sept. 9, 2002, when a tractor trailer owned by Paige Transportation Inc. hit them near Buffalo, said attorney Daniel O'Toole. The crash sent their van rolling over five to seven times, and all the members received injuries, attorneys for the band members said The band still performs, but two injured members left. --Todd Venezia" As a result, the band can now expect pretty much everyone they've ever played a show with or talked to be contacting them and sucking up right about now.
Don't hold their breath because if and when they do receive money it they'll probably be using their AARP card at Denny's.
Man, are we old, crotchedy dudes or what? "Ah, kid, you ain't gettin' nothin'. Ahhhhhhhhhh...and while I'm here, let me piss in your cereal too...aahhhhhhhhhh..."
It's not a "we'll see" thing. People aren't pooh-poohing your friends' sudden richness because they are trying to be assholes. The reality is that appeals, a probable lessening of the excessive $ award, legal fees, and a probable bankruptcy filing by the defendant will eat that money up.
Good old Candiria! Hope they get SOMETHING out of the whole mess. I'm not real into their new album at all, but wish 'em the best.
and the most important thing is they are all still alive and dont not have any permanent damage to their bodies that would allow them not to play again. They all got new equipment too, so thats good. But if you can top that off with a million each, i think i would be really happy
Holy crap! $29M for 5 non fatal injuries. Another runaway jury. This will get reversed on appeal or settled for much less.
