Before the repeat thread police jump on my back, this isn't another Manny Ramirez-esque "What's your favorite song" thread. This is about MY favorite song. Feel free to add yours, if you want.

Up until last week, I was like probably 90% of people and didn't have a "favorite song". Sure, I had a list of 15 or 20 songs that were on my "favorite songs" list, but to pick out just ONE of those songs would be difficult at best and mind numbingly neurotic at worst. Driving home from my parents house last week, however, it came on. I've heard the song a million times before, but for some reason, the song just clicked for me this time. Maybe it was the time of day, maybe it was the fact I heard it in my truck, or maybe it was because I would be getting married a couple days later (got married on April 13), but at that moment I decided, "THIS is my favorite song!

    Hotel California

Yes, the song that defined The Eagles. Probably the second most overplayed song in rock history right behind "Stairway to Heaven" is my favorite number one song of all time, for three reasons

    1) The intro - The opening instrumental sequence matches the rest of the song perfectly. It flows so smoothly, with just the slightest hint of Middle Eastern/Indian flavor. It just screams out, "Hey, moron! Turn up the radio, there's a cool song being played"

    2) The lyrics - Like all great song lyrics, the words to Hotel California can be interpreted on different levels. Is it a stor about Hell, as many believe, or is it simply about a stay at a hotel in California? One wouldn't be wrong in arguing either case. Maybe "They stabbed it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast" means a fight against the dark lord himself, or simply about trying to cut into a really tough steak. That's what makes great lyrics great

    3) The guitar solo - Need I say more? The second greatest guitar solo ever, right behind "Sultans of Swing". I know I've almost swirved off the road many times trying to play it on air guitar...

So, there it is, my favorite song. I hope you enjoy this masterpiece as much as I now will, now that I have a more thorough understanding of it...

So.....what city are you going to fly to on Southwest airlines to see them?

My wife and I wanted to fly to Seattle and see them in Vancouver, but it's the middle of the week. We may just pick some random small city that most people haven't heard of.

The eagles are my second all time favorite band.

Led Zep being my first (ZZ Top, third...Aerosmith, fourth....and after that, I don't know)

My all time favorite song? I don't know. Myf favorite song from the Eagles is probably the Last Resort. Led Zep? probably Kashmir...or That's the way....or Since I've been loving you....heck I don't know, there's so many.

Sorry....can't give you a straight answer

    Tough category.

Mine's a tie between "Imagine" by John Lennon and "Something" by George Harrison and The Beatles.

A-Train - Joe Walsh and Mark Knoffler are among my (many) favorites. I don't know anything about you, but your taste in guitarists says alot about you as a person in my book.

I have too many favorites to make a list. Maybe I'll try later.
