Oh boy...one of my dogs was prancing around the other night around 2 am panting and I was asleep of course. It woke me up and I walk into my dining area. There is vomit on the floor so I'm like.....ooooh. Cleaned it up and went back to bed. But, there was still a smell and I thought one of my dogs was farting or something. So, I'm sleeping with the covers over my head trying not to smell.

Eventually, I think...there has got to be something else going on. It's 4 am now and I get up looking around. There is liquid poo on my carpet in the other bedroom. So, great...I have to clean this up now. Thankfully, I have a Steam Vac. I get that cleaned up. Then, I realize my dog has liquid poo coming smeared from her behind like she forgot to wipe or something. It spread to her stomach. So, everywhere she laid down or sat got a little liquid poo on it.

So, now I get a wet towel and I have to wipe my dogs behind :GROSS: . These are house dogs mind you and I won't have a dirty backside contaminating my pad if I can help it. It's been a few days since then and my dog still has the runs. She has been good about "running" it outside but I still have to wipe her butt before she comes back in because it runs down her backside :NASTY:.

Anybody ever have this problems. Can I give the dog Pepto or something? Or should I get to the vet for some meds? Just wondering if anyone has experienced this gross-a-thon. I'm not sure what brought it on....I did switch her dog food at one point but this happened much later after that so I don't think that's it. Maybe, some canned food I mixed with the dry had some bad meat in it or something. But, my other dog is fine! I dunno what is wrong....God forbid they both do the liquid poo gross-a-thon!!!!

    HELP!!!

    thanks  :(

Take it to a the vet. It may have ate something like a chocolate bar that is toxic to dogs, but not to people or have something worse.

I'm starting to think that whole "chocolate" thing is a myth.

A friend of ours had this chocolate truffle cake on their table. It was about the size of 5 generous normal cake pieces. It had this moist gooey chocolate cake like interior and this chocolate icing.

Well, she goes out for a walk with her kids and comes back to find the entire think gone, with only the remnants on the carpet and their dog nowhere to be found.

Of course the dog ate the whole thing, but nary a side-effect was observed since then.

And, this isn't some giant St. Bernard or something. It's a little 30lb or so, dog.

Did you indulge the dog in something extra other than dogfood?

Last Thanksgiving my dogs got stoopid krazy leftover dinner and stuffing and bones and turkey neck, all that!
Later that night, my big dog wouldn't lie down (Sleeping in my parents house...they spoil'em) anyhow, I get up and there are explosions all on the side of the sofa, chairs into the kitchen etc...
I couldn't get mad at the damn dog cuz I'm the one that stuffed it!

Don't stuff your dog with too much good stuff. They don't know when to stop!

BTW, sounds like your doggie has some kinda stomach virus. I'll bet he gets over it in a day. If not, then its something more serious and you should take it to the vet.

    good luck!:)

You need to buy some liquid cork. Spread a little on its ass hole and forget it. You will never have to worry again.

Why chocolate can be fatal for dogs?

Chocolate is made from the beans of the cacao tree. It is not the caffeine but Thebromine that is the toxic chemical found in chocolate that affects dogs adversely. Although caffeine is also present in chocolate, it is in much smaller amounts.

Theobromine's effect on the canine body:

It is a stimulant to the CNS - Central Nervous System
It is a stimulant to the cardiovascular system
    It increases blood pressure
    It causes nausea and vomiting
Three important factors determine the degree of damage and toxicity; the size of the dog, the type of chocolate eaten and the amount of chocolate consumed.

All chocolate is not alike. Unsweetened [baker's] chocolate contains 8-10 times the amount of Theobromine as milk chocolate. Semi-sweet is 4-5 times more potent than milk chocolate. White chocolate contains Theobromine, but is smaller amounts; therefore Theobromine poisoning is unlikely with white chocolate. Concentrations of Theobromine varies as follows: Milk chocolate has 44mg/oz. Semisweet chocolate has 150 mg/oz.; and Baking chocolate has 390mg/oz.

I typically don't give my dogs non-dog types of food....like table scraps except on special occassions. Okay....I gave the dog a small piece of a breadstick from Papa John's...it was barely a pinch. I always give equal portions....the same of everything....to both dogs.

Maybe it's something other than diet....I will have to get the vet to check it out I guess. Now, I find myself looking at the floor wondering if there is a remnant of liqui-poo there. It's gross...I know. Plus, my poor dog thinks I'm a crazy dogophile for wiping her behind. She won't lick it and clean it.....so I have no choice!

    ARGH!!!!

I had the same type of situation with my Boxer pup over the summer. He got some type of bacteria from eating a bird. Rabbit poo and other sources can also sicken a dog. Take your k9 to the vet.
Pepto will work on dogs, as prescribed, but I cannot advise on dosage for yours.

My dog had that. Somehow the poo in her fur kept reinfecting her. The vet had to shave her ass. Then she would look at her ass whenever she had to poo for a couple of weeks, like she was worried it would happen again. Very gross.

Yeah....I walked my dogs on Saturday and I know the one sick dog sometimes sniffs out a certain kind of poo(like duck or cat poo) and tries to eat it. I think she may have done that on the way back from the walk. It may have infected her with something.

A Ridgeback has very short hair on the behind. So, I'm not sure if the poo on her fur could keep re-infecting her. I am getting more worried about the situation...seems like if I wait too long...the infection could cause more problems(if it is one). My dog seems fine behavior-wise...except when poo-ing and not wiping :).

    thanks

Oh boy....I got home from work yesterday after posting with you'll on this subject. Well....the sick dog had an episode and poo was all over the couch and the floors.....freaking everywhere. I was so disgusted. I got them into the vet that night and the fecal analysis turned up plenty of bacteria in the dog feces. So, they gave me some bland dog food, gave the dog some shots of antibiotics, and gave me some pills to give her.

Then, I had the unenviable task of clean-up for the next hour. Funny...when the vet got the stool sample....they stuck this long stick up the dog's behind. Then, the dog couldn't stop liquid poo-ing all over the vet floor. It was gross....they set her off.

Anyway, I'm still alive....barely. I hope my dog gets better soon cause I'm tired of washing everything in my house....carpets, slipcovers, bed spreads, floors, towels, cages........AHHHHHH!!!!

Thanks for the moral support and advice. When dogs go wrong, they can be hell.

hey surf, maybe you should invest in some "Granny-Style" plastic covers for the furniture, chairs, tables and rugs??

    good luck bro...

it's a good thing you have that steam cleaner.
