Has there ever been an MVP who wasn't picked for the all star game? If we end up winning our division and securing at least #2 seed in the West, you'd think McGrady would have some pretty serious right to be considered as MVP (if you can manage to keep all the 'don't talk about what might be' language out of this particular thread, that'd be great - just go post it someplace else, this is a thread for those who dare to dream)
There was some T-Mac for MVP talk on ESPN when I got home from work about an hour ago. And I don't have an answer for your question, but it's easily figured out via a couple of Google searches.
yeah i'm not sure. I agree that it'd be pretty crazy. But I don't think TMac has a shot at anything higher than 4th in the MVP vote no matter what happens. To me, Paul, Lebron, Kobe have all been definitively better on good teams.
To me, the MVP is the most important player on a team. Take that player away, and how good would his team do? Take Paul away- Hornets out of playoffs for sure. Take James away- Cleveland has a much worse record, but in the horrible east, they probably have a shot at the playoffs. Take Kobe away- Lakers are probably strong enough to compete for a bottom seed. Take KG away- Celtics are still a top 5 team in the East. Take TMac away- we're a lottery team. So it's down to TMac and Paul, IMO, at least at this juncture. Honestly, the Hornets have better talent on paper.
i don't think tmac will be mvp even rox finish as 1 or 2 seed in west. this year will be kobe. but RA can get coach of the year.
Jerry West did the latter in 1969. I looked up the former and can't find any MVP not making the all-star.
that has happened though ask Jerry West. but chances are it will be hard since MVP means the entire season and not just late pushes. most of the MVP candidates play at a high level the entire year, yao was much more of a candidate if he was still playing and we were still on the streak.
That will be another thing only the rockets have done this year.. ............It could happen NBA.....where not making allstar team and still getting mvp happens........ I like
if (IF) we finish as #1 or #2 seed, then it's hard to argue that it's "just a late season push"! Even our 20 in a row is more than a 'late season push' because it's almost a quarter of the season long! Normally the MVP award is handed out to the player who makes the 'significant' difference to their team which enabled them to finish high in the standings (in my experience, it's normally one of the top 4 teams in the league)
MVP is worthless, I'd trade that for continual use of team ball. If Tracy were to somehow win, he'd have to pull a Dream or I wouldn't respect him at all.
I agree on Paul. Yeah Cleveland will go from 50+ wins to about 25 wins. That's as much of a loss as Paul's loss would cause NO. Take Kobe from the Lakers? I don't think they make the playoffs. They'd be out of the top 8 to me. KG from the Celtics? Drop from 60ish wins to 45 probably. TMac from the Rockets when we have Yao? Drop from 50+ to 45 I think. Tells me Paul and LBJ have the best case by your theory
I dunno why people are jumping on Chris Paul's jock about MVP. Look at his team: West, All star, consistent 20/9 player. Peja, Still one of the best shooters in the nba. Chandler, Double double machine(12/12) Decent role players: Mo Pete, Pargo, J. Wright, Bonzi. People say, take CP3 out of the team, and they'll be out of the playoffs for sure. But if you take out West or Chandler the same would occur even with CP3.
i disagree wholeheartedly. at least 4 of chandler's 12 points come off of alley oops thrown by CP3. a fair chunk of west's 20 points come from 15 foot jumpers which are set up by the pick n roll with none other than CP3. without chris paul they're a bottom feeder.
Becuase if his averages hold he will become one of 5 or 6 people every to average 20 pts and 10 assists in a season. Nash never even did it.
