Since mavs are out of playoff, do you think they will still give MVP to Dirk? I mean, he sucks, for real, even softer than Yao. Do you think they should give MVP to Nash? if so, wow, nash has three MVP in a row, a new record :D

Nash gets the trophy with Dirk's name scratched out.

Also scratched out, "the choking loser. Most Embarassing Player"

It's better for EVERYONE involved if Nash wins instead of Dirk. It would benefit Dirk himself the most, he wouldn't have to put up with all the crap coming his way next week if Stern secretly switched them.

The only reason Dirk will win is his teams had more wins and people didn;t want to make Nash a 3 timer. Weak reasons if you ask me.

Actually he wouldn't set a record. Larry Bird and Wilt Chamberlain also won 3 MVP's in a row. Plus, like others have said, they vote on it in the regular season...his no-show unfortunatly will have no impact on the vote.

He is a choker though. God I hate Dallas.

this is a regular season MVP award I don't know how the Playoffs have anything to do with it

as far as the MVP is concerned, the Playoffs never happened, the Mavericks were the best team in the league, 67 wins, Dirk played well, he deserved it.

No doubt the press conference is going to be crazy though.

I disagree. Stats arent everything. He rarely put that team on his shoulders during the regular season. He had no impact on the low block. Only grabs offensive rebounds against inferior talent. Is 7ft but isn't effective against Garnett, Brand, or Howard, etc.

They didnt win 67 games because of Dirk. They won because of Avery Johnson, a great killer instinct, a deep bench, and gritty ballsy players like Howard and Stackhouse.

If you took Dirk who is considered the best PF (ya right) and replaced him with KG, Brand, Duncan, they would still win 65 plus! If you took Nash away from Phoenix and replaced him with the 2nd best PG (Kidd? D. Williams? Paul? Davis) they would surely be behind San Antonio in seeding.

You mean they voted already during the regular season, before playoff starts? or they vote depending on player's performance during regular season?

If they havn't voted yet, do you think that this dramatic change in mavs-warriors series will affect their decision a bit? I thought mavs would sweep warriors or lose maximally one game on road since they were so good in regular season.

Even Dirk wins eventually, it's embarrassing, since most MVP winners got trophy during one of their playoff games at home, but mavs are out of playoff already.

OK, so I get the impression that English isn't your first language and you're relatively new to the NBA as a big time fan. I apologize if I came across as rude. To answer your question -- all of the major NBA awards are voted on during the regular season. The votes are already in. The playoffs have no impact on the awards.

NO, Dirk did not play well. But am I the only one who remembers Dirk throwing down 50 against the Suns last season? Dirk can bring it in big games; I think y'all just aren't giving credit to how GOOD the Warriors defense was.

so b/c tim duncan is better than deron williams, steve nash is better than dirk nowitzki? interesting reasoning.

what if we just replaced nash with duncan. how does a barbosa, bell, marion, amare, duncan team sound. like a 65+ win team to me. marion, amare, duncan on the front line? marion, bell, duncan on defense? who's stopping that team? the lack of star pg's and plethora of star pf's (though kidd would still have the suns running and gunning) doesn't make nash better nor any PF worse.

    Question:

When do the "writers" do the voting?

Have the votes already been placed or they still need to be done?

Dirk is going to go down as the worst mvp in history. Such a shame nash doesn't win it only cause voters don't want to make him a 3 time mvp. He's the best player in the nba today.

I completely disagree with this. You might have a case that he's the best offensive player today, but overall he is not the best.

As much as I hate Dirk, him getting the regular season MVP should not be based on what he did in the playoffs. The have another MVP trophy for that.

Let's not forget the 1995 Regular Season MVP, David Robinson. Us Rockets fans went crazy went that happened seeing how Hakeem had such a great season but much like Dirk, Robinson was easily dominated in the playoffs and Hakeem ended up winning the NBA Finals MVP that year.
