I just did a comparison of the top contenders for MVP this year bases on overall performance(scoring, shooting, rebounding, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and fouls) and here are my top 5 guys as of now: 1. Jason Kidd- Phoenix 2. Kevin Garnett-Minnesota 3. Chris Webber-Sacramento 4. Gary Payton-Seattle 5. Eddie Jones-Charlotte I know you will say "What about Shaq? What about Iverson? " Well, these guys are playing great, too, but I compare more than just scoring, and these guys dont rank as high across the board as my top 5 do. Your thoughts?
Jason Kidd is a tremondous player. But he is in a slump and his team is not doing so well. I wouldnt give it to him. 2 players that I think should get it is either 1. SHAQ 2. WEBBER They look at how the team is doing as well. These 2 are just doing great.
Did you see how well Garnet played against us??? I was amazed by that kid. Can you imagine what he'll be like in 5 years?? Lord have mercy!!
what kind of comparison are you doing? while i'm ignorant to fantasy bball calculations, i've got to believe any calculation would rank a #2 scorer and #1 rebound, top 10 blocker very high. from a quick looksee at your line-up, it looks like you are treating every stat the same. Are you doing that "add up rankings for each category" thing that always ended up placing David Robinson as the best player? With that said, M&M, I love Eddie Jones, although i'd have to put Duncan ahead of him. As a GM I'd take your 4 and Duncan ahead of Shaq. But that's because I'm an irrational Shaq-basher who loves seeing him get swept in the playoffs.
M-&-M Well ok you said you were judging MVPs by overall? Im no shaq lover but His team has the best record He is 2nd or 3rd in scoring 1st in rebounding 2nd in blocks 1st in field goal percentage and like 3rd in minutes played so i hate to say but for a big man u cant get any better and he has developed his overall game enough to deserve the MVP ------------------ --TEX
Lol yah i know but if i was that big and strong id put up those numbers easy. I mean jump hook and dunks arent exactly that hard. and at least id hit some free throws. knowing LA they will blow through the 1st and 2nd rounds and get swept by portland.
I doubt many want to hear this, but Karl Malone is definitely the MVP right now. Nobody, and I mean nobody, thought the Jazz would be leading the Midwest at this point. All they did in the offseason was lose a great role player in Shandon Anderson and another key member of their bench in Greg Foster. Malone's still putting up great numbers at the age of 36 and playing 38 minutes a game (Hakeem can't even play 5 without collapsing). Stockton and Hornacek are both playing under 30 minutes a game and putting up near career-low numbers. The Jazz are amazingly atop the Midwest division right now, and it's all because of the MVP, Karl Malone. Second is Chris Webber.
AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shaq and Karl Malone........? Its a sad day on this board.... Please Clutch, please, put a lock on this thread!
Shaq deserves it right now. But malone is having a great year. Right now malone got over 30 thousand points in his career. The game is in Minnesota. Right when malone made his 30 thousandth point he got a technical for yelling at the refs. Then they announced that Karl Malone is the 3rd guy to reach over 30 thousand points and at first the crowd was booing a little because of the technical and stuff but Kevin Garnett brought his hands up and told the crowd to stand up and the crowd got louder and were giving him a standing ovation.
Francis3...you beat me to it. I was just about ready to post the Malone technical...did you see the attempted knee in the groin, too. typical...Malone may be great...but he has the worst court class I've ever seen. At least we can take solace in the fact Rodman always outplayed him.....
Shaq leads the league in Rebounding and FG% I believe. While being a close second in Scoring and shots blocked. The MVP is locked up.
Malone hits players in the groin everynight. Like you said he may be great but he really has bad class when playing on the court.
Oh hell, here we go with the MVP stuff. I, too, am a Shaq-basher....so even if he deserved it, I would never vote him as my MVP. Why you ask? Well, he is cocky, arrogant, and just flat out bigger than anyone else. His skills are less than stellar. I played some Junior College ball, and if I had that size, I would be just as effective in the NBA. OK, that may be an exaggeration, but anyway....moving on. CAN YOU CONSIDER SHAQ AN MVP OF THE LEAGUE WHEN HE GETS PULLED LATE IN GAMES BECAUSE OF HIS HORRENDOUS FREE THROW SHOOTING?? I think not. Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back! Quit making terrible rap records and get your ass in the gym and on the free throw line. You can look at stats, you can look at the team's record, you can look at who can sheerly dominate a game when needed. Or you can look at the total picture. I have to choose either Garnett, Payton, or Duncan. ------------------ HOOP-T
UTballer is right on. Except I would have TD instead of Kidd. I like Kidd a lot, but as an overall impact player, I can't put him in the top 5. Karl Malone would not be in the top 5 this year. TD, just like last year, clearly just does more on the court and is the superior player. If the writers-jackasses had actually waited until the season was over to vote for MVP (after SA passed Utah), it would have been a no brainer that TD would have won, with Karl coming in #2.
